    Red Wing makes wonderful boots. I have several pairs, all brown or similar, so when the Beckman's in black dropped significantly in price and Amazon had their 20% off coupon, I scooped a pair up. The construction of the boot is top notch per the usual for Red Wing's American made shoes. The leather seems to be of slightly higher quality than non-Beckman Red Wiing's. The look of the boot is very nice. Red Wing manages to make classic designs look modern, which is great because the boots last forever and I doubt they will ever look offensive regardless of what year it is or fashion trends are in place.

    A couple of gripes. I don't think these fit is as well as other Red Wings, even after being broken in. I have small feet. I wear a size 9 sneaker, a size 8 in Allen Edmonds dress shoes, and normally a 7.5 in Red Wings. I ordered my normal 7.5 and I was swimming in them. Sent it back, exchanged it for a 7, and while much better it still feels larger than my other Red Wings. There is constant heel slippage even after breaking the boot in. Not to the point that will cause blisters, but just enough to be annoying. This isn't because the boot is too large. I've read others who have had this problem with Beckmans, and it seems to have something to do with the construction. Bottom line is they seemed to have missed slightly in the fit category when compared to their other models.

    Overall I'm very pleased. Amazon has these in black for about $150 cheaper than just about everyone else after the 20% coupon (for signing up for their shoe newsletter). They also have a terrific return policy, so you can feel confident you can return them if you order the wrong size. With that being said, I'd size down a half size from most other boots out there, and probably 1.5 sizes if you are using your sneaker size for a comparison.

    I always liked the look of the Beckman boot, but wasn't willing to shell out $330 for them, and they never go on sale. I prefer the look of the plain toe, but the mock toe went on sale for $80 less (plus had a discount offer for an additional 20% off), so I went with them.
    In regards to sizing, I am between a 9-1/2 and 10 as measured, D width, in athletic shoes, wear a 10 for Brooks, Nike, 9-1/2 for New Balance. I don't wear boot socks, so in most boots (Frye, Chippewa, Wolverine) I wear a 9. Due to the excellent price, limited inventory, and flexible return policy, I bought 8-1/2 and 9. Glad I did. I swam in the 9s, with the 8-1/2 still have room for an insert and a wool sock if needed.
    Arch and ankle support on the Beckmans is excellent, boots are fairly light weight, slightly narrow, and the leather quality is exceptional. Just don't plan on picking these up and wearing them out of the box for an extended walk,... In the 40 years I've been wearing boots, I've never had a pair as hard to break in as these (hiking, work, or dress boots). Everyone has their own best method, but whatever your choice, you will need to plan for it. Only reason for 4 stars vs 5 - not lined (although I knew that going in), and I still think the plain toe is a better looking boot (just wasn't worth the extra $ to me). Very happy I made the purchase, and happy with the service.

    Let me just start by saying I never do reviews but I feel I'm obligated. I did lots of research on many websites and read countless reviews.

    The Beckman or Gentleman's Traveler are part of Red Wings Heritage Collection. Boots are available in a round toe or a moccasin toe. The colors I know of are Black, Black Cherry, Antique Cigar, and Cigar. Beckmans also are available in an Oxford Shoe, Chukka, and 6" Boot.

    I orderd the Black 6"Boot in the moc toe style STYLE NO. 9015. I'm a Postal Clerk so I had to do black and the price of the moc toe on Amazon plus the 20% discount thay gave for signing up for the shoe newsletter made this boot a no brainer. The Post Office gives me a uniform allowance but Im so tired of the cheap boots the venders offer.

    The advice a out sizing is right on my running shoes are Brooks 11.5 so I got the Beckmans in 11 right onthe money for my fit. The with was a little tight at first but were perfect after about a week. I also added the Red Wing Comfortforce Soft Toe Insole very nice on the hard workroom floor 8-10 hours a day.

    As for boot care I will be using Venetian Shoe Cream neutral. I found out about this on a stylefourm guys swear by this stuff claean, protect, and shine.

    Just put the boots on let them form to your feet, break in a little and you will love the Beckman shoe.

    My moc-toe Beckmans are in a Chestnut,(a color that seems to be discontinued picked up for a song on Amazon a couple of years back. As frequently noted, they run at least a half-size big but unlike my plain-toe Beckmans, the mocs seem to run a little narrow. I generally average about a 12.5, but in the Beckman I can actually wear an 11.5. The leather is beautiful, the craftsmanship is very good and the look is stylish and unique--I've actually had people stop and ask what they were. Perhaps most importantly is the fact that they are made in the U.S. Break-in is a little long but be patient, you'll be rewarded! They are a bit pricey unless you can luck into a rare sale, but they are certainly worth it.
