Break-in period was about 12 wears. They were rather stiff and rubbed quite a bit- especially during the first few wears. Hurt like heck, but in the end, totally worth it. Essentially, this happens with every new pair of boots I buy. I plan on having these boots for the long haul. My last pair of 875's lasted about 5 years! I'd still be wearing them today, but I left them at a camp site by mistake! Also- don't pay full price for these... check back daily, as their price fluctuates quite a bit! Snagged mine when they were 25% off!

I have worn these boots for three days. I bought these boots to replace a pair of Doc's that I was able to destroy in 6 months of wear. I wear boots to work six days per week and spend the entire time standing on hard, slippery surfaces in a kitchen environment. The soles of my retired Doc's were worn smooth and had split wide-open, so I am hoping that Red Wing boots will outlast the sadly departed pair.

My first three days have been torture. The boots are challenging me to break them in. My ankles are rubbed raw at the collar of the boot and my smallest toe is killing me. As far as support and comfort, the overall sense I have is that they may one day be very comfortable to wear and may possibly provide great support. As of the end of the third day, I view them as adversaries.

Gimme a week and another bottle of advil to really know if I will like them enough to justify the cost.

    UPDATE:
So, I wore these boots for a day of yard work. I doubled up on socks and SOAKED my feet under the outdoor faucet. With soaked boots, I walked them dry and whadda ya know, they are now comfortable. Did this drill one more time the following week and they now fit like a glove and are remarkably comfortable boots.

    Update Two:
These boots now reside in the trunk of my car. I wore the second pair of soles off these boots (90 bucks a pop for new soles) a few months back. So the sole tally is 2 sets in total. Great boots, but hard to justify resoling boots every six months for the price of the boots ( not to mention the cost and wait time of it all). Dig the Redwing support and comfort, but probably will just wear these as a part of a two-pair rotation.

Bought these for my Husband, and he loves them. The sizing runs a size large. Takes a few wears to break in the boots, but it's worth the pain and blisters once you break them in. These look good with every outfit my husband wears out, they are of superior quality and they'll last for many years to come.

No need to downsize if you are buying, my local red wing store salesperson also advice not to downsize as it may cause comfort issues.
Just buy true to your feet size.

Overall, this boots is good, will last for a few years definitely.

This is the classic Redwing Moc, in vogue for generations of farmers and workmen and more recently for hipsters. Classic means several things:

In looks, it means a classic design that is instantly recognizable anywhere and oft copied, but nothing beats an original Redwing.

In construction, this is a design that comes from the 1950's unchanged so it's classic 1950's design and technology. There is full grain unlined leather and a thick white outsole, no fancy stuff here.

Feel: The leather is thick and strong. As many reviewers have said, it requires a break in period before it feels comfortable, that is classic 1950's. The insole is genuine leather and there is no padding so the only thing between you and the ground is insole leather and the white outsole. The break in period is where you mold the hard shoe around your soft foot with your heat and sweat. Mine weren't too uncomfortable to start off with, I guess the shape of my foot was pretty close to the shape of the shoe already and I typically wear my boots with the top two eyelets unlaced so the pressure around the ankle wasn't too bad.

Quality and service: The leather and the construction are definitely high quality and indicative of the price. My local store will oil your boots and replace your laces for free, that's good service.

    Overall, a workman's boot icon.

These are the original work boots. My dad had his pair for 20+ years. They are made to last and they are very nicely made. I suggest putting in a thin insole and these will fit in the size you are used to.

Great product but I have to exchange for size 10D. Not all Red Wings fit the same. For example, I am size 11D in Redwing Beckman boots. I am size 10.5D in Red Wing Brogue Rangers and I am a size 10D when it comes to this classic moc boot. this was my first time buying shoes online and I am thankful the company lets buyers return products.
