4.0 out of 5 stars A Stout Work Boot, March 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After going through the soles in a pair of Clark Roar in about six months, I wanted to find a more durable pair of desert boots. Every review I could find on the Red Wing Work Chukka Boots indicated that they might fit the bill. They are resolable. The leathers used are full grain.

These boots are everything the reviews said. They are sewn extremely well. The materials are first rate. The toe box is narrower than similarly sized Clark boots. The fit is different as well. The tongue is sewn in closer so that getting in and out of the boot at first is tight. There is very little cushioning. The leather insole will eventually mold itself to your foot. The leather the uppers are cut from may be more than twice as thick as my Clark Roars. All this is just to say that these boots will probably not be comfortable out of the box. They will require a break-in. If you normally wear a medium size, you might want to consider a wide in the same size.

I think these boots will be very long-lived. Once I have mine really broken-in, I think they will be my favorites.

THE BEST MID TOP WORK BOOT MADE PERIOD !
I WEAR THEM ALL DAY IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS, FROM SCORCHING HOT TO JUST ABOVE FREZZING..........MOSTLY ON HARD CONCRETE FLOORS.
YES THEY ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THEN OTHER BOOTS BUT THE QUALITY AND COMFORT ARE WORTH THE ADDED EXPENSE.
IF YOU HAVE .10 CENT FEET BUY A .10 CENT BOOT .
RED WING YOU HAVE TO WEAR THEM TO BELEIVE HOW GOOD THEY REALLY ARE.
I RATE THE AAAAA PLUS>>>>>>>>>>>

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Boot, March 16, 2011
Great, comfortable boot. My feet weren't used to wearing such a rugged shoe- so it took a little time for them to toughen up- but all is well now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, January 1, 2012
I have worn Red Wing boots (875) for many years, and recently bought the Chukka for lighter everyday use, but not particularly as a work boot. Overall, I think they are good-looking, rugged and versatile boots. Red Wing heritage boots are always going to be solid overall and will last a very long time indeed. I am sure I will use them quite heavily.

Nevertheless, I was disappointed in the stitching quality and the rather uneven leather (suede) texture, although in fairness I expect a lot when I buy Red Wing boots. The quality is certainly a lot higher than the average boot junk sold by most manufacturers.

So while I can recommend the work chukka as a good, sturdy all-round boot with reasonably stylish looks at a decent prize, I recommend that you inspect the boots carefully before buying, especially the leather and stitching. Unfortunately, this will be difficult to do if you buy over the web where the best deals are to be found.

Oh, I almost forgot, expect really sore feet until they are worn in, since the leather is really thick and stiff, and the instep is very tight. It took me a very long time to break them in fully, approximately 6-8 weeks. Use protective tape and rest days, or your feet are going to get grinded into hamburger meat.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice boots, September 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had purchased the 1907 classic work boots at size 10 and it was and still is pretty painful breaking them in becasue ohers suggested going down a half size. decided to go for the 10.5 in the chukka and it was a good decision. I also thought becasue there is no insole at all, when they stretch out I'll put a nice insole in if I have to. They're sharp looking shoes. I got the oil slick and I wish they came in black becasue I'd get another pair. I recoomend getting the full complement of redwing shoe oils and creams to protect the shoe for the long term. Amazon shipping was fantastic- next day and worth it.

It took about 4 days to break these in, but now they are very comfortable and look great. They've held up well over a month of constant wear, rain, and abuse. Would definitely buy again.
