Gripping, gentle, tearing to the core, March 13, 2003
"If it doesn't draw blood, then what's the point?" says vocalist Liz Hysen of Picastro's music. Red Your Blues lulls you downward and then gently claws at you, tearing through the dark with a soft, disturbed growl. Rather than rising from the fall, it stays down while showing its claws and fangs, suggesting that it is content and in charge. Reminiscent of Joy Division, Swell, P.J. Harvey, Mazzy Star, Picastro have carved a unique and important place our world of darkness and light.
