3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Robert J. Ament on April 21, 2011
Format: Audio CD
The selections on this album were recorded 1984 through 1988. I'm truly surprised no one has written a review until now. Maybe most reviews court votes.....I court jazz fans!

First of all, this is a swinging guitarist, well versed in bop, who also has that beautiful tone similar to Kenny Burrell, one of my favorites, as well as a similarity on some cuts to the style of Joe Pass. Next, the supporting talent of Kirk Lightse on the piano,(John Hicks on "Round Midnight") Ray Drummond on bass and "Smitty" Smith on drums (Billy Hart on "Round Midnight") plus guest Pepper Adams, one of my favorite bari players, on "Round Midnight" combine to make this a pretty appealing and interesting group. Finally the material in the set is enough of a variation to satisfy even the most discriminating tastes of the jazz fan. There are two originals, two compositions of Thelonious of which guests Pepper Adams, two Wayne Shorter having a Brazilian touch, three solo guitar selections featuring that wonderfully rich, full tone ( a Billy Strayhorn twofer, Tommy Dorsey's theme and Charlie Parkers's variation of "Indiana" ...the bop classic "Quasimodo") and one Christmas carol recorded in the spirit of the season, November 1985.

What's not to like? This was Peter's, a Canadian by birth, second U.S. album as a leader. Excellent guitar, a strong small group and a really fine program make this a desirable addition to anyone's collection!
