Delightful Dia! December 7, 2011
Format:MP3 Download|Amazon Verified Purchase
I knew there was something special and truly unique about Dia Frampton when she was on The Voice. She stood out from everyone else and was fresh and put her own charming spin on all the songs she sang. She was far and away my favorite.

This album is a fine follow-up that lives up to the potential she showed then.

Unlike a lot of other first albums from musical TV show contestants this one is really wonderful!

It's perky but not too cute. All the songs have real feeling to them and Dia has had a hand in writing them all. Somewhere between folk and pop with a dash of country added on one song by her mentor Blake Shelton. There are great arrangements as well that bring out Dia's individual style beautifully. Remember when she sang REM's Loosing My Religion on The Voice? Possibly her best tune on the show and the one that got her really going as a contender. Well, she gets equally fine backing on Red.

Dia doesn't really fit into one category unless it would be singer-songwriter. She seems to like it this way.

The album's mood is cheery but when you listen to the lyrics there is some real pathos to them, The Broken Ones and Good Boy in particular. Broken Ones is her single from the album and it's a fantastic, catchy radio-worthy song. I love it!

The closest comparison I can make to this album is Duffy's Rockferry.

But Dia is completely Dia and no one else.

I hope this will be the first of many delightful albums from Dia Frampton.

I think this album has its key special trademarks. There's such a great diversity to this album, but it lies true to no single genre. Dia has created her own genre with this album, as it touches upon country pop to soft ballads to more upbeat, dance songs to the old familiar storytelling and darker songwriting. The album is well-balanced and, although I may be biased, I think this album serves as a great milestone for Dia. By searching back to her roots and home all-throughout the songwriting process of this album, Dia has been able to reflect on all of the situations in her life that have led her to where she is now--and the product of that search is the album "Red". Much more mature and holding so much more knowledge of the world around her than when she released her first studio album with her sister Meg in 2006, Dia is able to create songs that are true to her; whether they're sweet, spooky, fun, or just plain make you happy, Dia has captured what she wants in music with this album, but is well aware of the troubles and traps that may lie ahead of her. This is told through her wonderful songwriting and carefully chosen effects in instrumentation. With careful listening, one can easily see the talent that has always bred beneath this small-town Utah girl. Although her earlier songs with Meg & Dia have strictly strayed away from her country roots, Dia is able to incorporate all she's loved and learned throughout the years, mixing in her country roots with the darker rock of her early years, the poppy ballads she's obligingly sung on "The Voice", and the not-too-dancey-yet-still-fun songs that embrace the time she is in now. As Meg & Dia albums have been harder to promote years before due to its more "acquired" taste, I feel this album can easily be heard by anyone, and listeners will find that one or a few of the key songs they enjoy. As Dia has always been one to be both sweet and at-times dark in both her own life and in her songwriting, this album has greatly captured the essence of who Dia is.

Red Hot! December 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Album is sensational. Dia has done an amazing job of crafting songs that are not only catchy and "mainstream", but songs that have lyrics that truly resonate. The collaborations on the albums only amplify the creavity that is present. There is folk rocker song: ISABELLA that brings is flares of Mumfords and Sons, while songs like DANIEL show Dia and her acoustic indie persona. All the songs are different and brings something you wouldn't nessecarily expect from her. DON'T KICK THE CHAIR adn BILLY THE KID easily demonstrate her creative side and more importantly her artistry. She has been able to create an album that differentiates her from most reality show singer and even singers in our industry today. There is no filler song, all of them are good! Congrats Dia...everyone...be sure to buy this album!

Tried to like it but was better on The Voice
Dia has a great voice and possibilities but this album is more 'techno'. Her song with Blake is one of the few good one's. Read more
