This isn't what I'd consider casual viewing. It is a bold and interesting work, but it doesn't stick to the ribs the way some of DePalma's films do. 'Redacted' comes off feeling like an exercise, but, happily, it is an exercise by perhaps the most underrated of our great filmmakers (however variable), and it is nice to see that he is still political, still experimenting and growing, still shaking people up and generating controversy. Huzzah!
