The personal narrative of the Reverend John Williams (1664-1729), first Puritan minister of the frontier out-post of Deerfield, Massachusetts, is one of the more well-known of the numerous 'captivity narratives' published during the Colonial period in US History. The narrative of his captivity, which lasted from February, 1704 through November, 1706, was originally published in 1707, and underwent numerous editions during the next nine decades before going out of print.
