5.0 out of 5 stars Unique, Thrilling Reading Experience
"Redeemer" is like no other novel I have read, and one of my all time favorites. It is unique and unpredictable, as are all of this author's stories, and you will find yourself thinking about it at unexpected moments. "Redeemer" is like no other novel I have read, and one of my all time favorites. It is unique and unpredictable, as are all of this author's stories, and you will find yourself thinking about it at unexpected moments. The movement of the story is constant, in the best way, and the characters fully visible. There is a delusional, truly threatening villain, a devoted mother and her two-year-old daughter, and a handsome, enigmatic hero, whose assignment to keep mother and daughter safe, becomes very personal. There is a history interwoven in the form of a story-within-a-story, which itself is fascinating, but which also holds crucial elements of the main story. There is a smartness and passion, like in all of Killough-Walden's work, that keeps the story with you long after you finish reading, in the very best way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read!, February 24, 2010

A definite must read for anyone looking for a very unique book with a spin on some religious and historical events. Every other chapter is a flashback, keeping you one your toes and unable to set the book down for a second! This book is anything but cookie-cutter. By the end I was sad to let these characters go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Refreshing, January 6, 2010

I really enjyed this book! Fantasy and religious history was refreshing. I was facinated with her spin of religon and fantasy I couldn't put the book down. I have definitely religous views but I'm not closed minded. I love thinking outside the box! This was great example of that.

Some people may find it offensive but again; it was refreshing and interesting....on to The Chosen Soul!

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting premise, but...., April 26, 2011

First, the good. The concept of the story was kind of interesting...vampires involved in the story of Christ. For the most part the author was able to do a good job of clearly following her ideas through to the end.

The reason I wouldn't give it a higher rating is because I felt the author made a couple of mistakes that a lot of new authors seem to usually make. The first is in dialog. I think the author needs to work on that portion of her writing. Some of the scenes just didn't sound right as I was reading them. Too robotic...too forced? One thing I absolutely could not stand was the speech impediment of the little girl, Jessie. I think the author was trying for "cute". To me, it was just annoying.

The second mistake was in her descriptions. Like a lot of new authors, this one gave you too much information. We don't need to know that after someone blows their nose, they threw the tissue into the waste basket, do we? Some of the paragraphs just go on too long describing how a person does thing A, then thing B, then thing C and so on, when it would be just as informative if the author skipped from point A to point D.

So overall, I liked the book and I wouldn't tell someone else not to read it. For the price, it was a fun read for the most part. I don't know that I'll immediately buy any of the author's other books, but at the same time I can't say that I won't give her another shot in the future. I think she has potential...she just needs to clean up a few things to make her books more enjoyable.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Redeemer" not what I expected, July 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Redeemer (Syndicate Novels) (Kindle Edition)
"Redeemer" was an interesting take on vampires with a biblical twist. The historical context was truly fantastic. The character development was limited to a few select characters, but I was left wondering about the background of the other characters that clearly held weight, but lacked substance. I would have enjoyed this book with more depth to the plot regarding the vampire community, the relationship between the modern day male/female vampire characters, and overall a bit more dialect between the characters. I love Heather's writing, and although I felt I wanted more plot development, her writing didn't disappoint. I would recommend this book to those who like historical fiction with a twist of fantasy. Little to no romance however.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute must read!, January 22, 2010
This review is from: Redeemer (Syndicate Novels) (Kindle Edition)
The story is fascinating and action packed. The plot is suspenseful and riveting and the characters are genuine and bold. This is story telling at it's finest. Redeemer is easily one of those stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat and up all night. Heather Killough-Walden is a fantastic story weaver and has quickly moved up the ranks in my list of favorite authors to the top of that list.

I loved this story. The characters are compelling and the plot is a non-stop roller coaster ride. I couldn't stop reading it once I started. It's completely addictive and I hope the author writes more in the series.

I loved reading this book. I thought the story was fascinating and cleverly twisted through a work of a fiction. It was cleverly weaved and mind grabbing. It kept you wanting to know what next? The characters are engaging and I hated to let go in the end. I wanted to know more about Micheal's past and who he really is (aside from what was described 2000 years prior), about Abbie and how she is different than others to be able to conceive. Is it one of her gifts? It was never clearly addressed. Could Abbie be someone reincarnate from Micheal's past? I just hated to see the story ended the way it did...too many unanswered questions and I wanted more...Maybe there is a next book? Please?

4.0 out of 5 stars Redeemer! Love it!, May 18, 2011

I enjoyed this book entirely, it is definely UNIQUE. I liked that the vampires are different not your garden variety vampire. They are immortals, but not the suck your blood and hunt you down type either, just the normal everyday person with extra powers.... some with even more than others. I like that Heather Killough-Walden takes these genres and makes them into something different, so that you feel like you are not reading the same old thing over and over just by a different author.

I thought also that this was interesting since I was brought up in a home that was taught biblcally that there was references to the bible. I wasn't discouraged, by it because I am secure in my faith though. I have my own beliefs, this is a work of fiction and it didn't bother me, but I could see where it could bother others, since it does talk negatively towards faith in general. I enjoyed this story entirely and I look forward to another from this series when it comes out.

This book starts out with a mother and a toddler being stalked and being shot at in a parking lot. Then to make matters worse dying......to save your daughter...what a story..I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Story! Love the Characters, April 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Redeemer (Syndicate Novels) (Kindle Edition)
This is one of the best stories I have read in a while! The author's version of vampires is intriguing and unique. The characters are interesting and real. I want to know more about them! I hope she writes more Syndicate Novels because I look forward to reading them all.

The action was fast moving. The plot intricate but not overwhelming. She used a flash-back technique to give history and it worked well.

This is a quick read...too bad, I want more of this world.
