Forever Changed,
By
This review is from: Redeeming Our Treasures: Finding Joy in the Shadows of an Abusive Past (Paperback)
Linda opened her heart and shared her life story in such a way that it gives hope to those who are survivors of sexual abuse. This was the first book I read as a survivor and it definitely changed my life! I couldn't put it down. It helped me to see myself as "normal" for the way I felt and handled things in my life. You can sense her concern for the reader in every page. It doesn't just offer hope, but also the path to God's healing. Once you recognize the reason for the way you see things, she challenges you to seek God for the healing He gives. I never felt overwhelmed while reading Linda's book. With every page I felt optimistic that I indeed could be healed from the scars of my past. My husband is reading it as a result of seeing the changes I've experienced. I started a support group for survivors and we are excitedly anticipating using this book and workbook. It's a must read for survivors and those who love them.

I found 'Redeeming Our Treasures' to be sensitive, informative, and healing. I believe survivors of abuse will find that they are understood and those who seek to help them will gain a deeper understanding of their struggle. I appreciate Linda's willingness to be vulnerable with her story which is woven throughout. And yet she is so sensitive to the reader's emotions. Her compassion guides the reader clearly but gently to healing. Having read the book, I am now going through the workbook which is helping me dig deep personally and to apply Truth. It's very practical and easy to use.

"By sharing her personal story about abuse in its many forms, Linda has opened the door ofhope, new hope, for countless abused women and girls. I strongly urge pastors to read this book. The church, more than ever before, needs to not only address this issue but provide counseling, help and assistance to so many and, sadly, a large number who suffer silently. Churches that would open their doors on this issue--for conferences, women's retreats, counseling sessions and more--are desperately needed. Linda ministers to this need through her speaking to these groups across the country." --Pastor Wesley Peterson, Pastor Emeritus, Christ the King Church, Oxford, Michigan "A book that every woman should read. I believe that God teaches the spiritually mature women to disciple the younger women. This book is written so that everyone, no matter what their educational level, can understand and apply the lessons shared. I pray someday copies of Redeeming Our Treasures will be in the thousands of prisons and jails across America and around the world, as so many of these women have abusive pasts." --Garry Sims, Director, Hope Aglow Ministries "Although it's heart-wrenching to read your story, you've shed light on the subject of what's going on in the mind of the abuser and why the abused feel as though it's their fault." --Sally Snider, A/G Missionary "You did a wonderful job telling your story and being so vulnerable. I have not experienced anything like the abuse you have, but I learned so much from reading your book. I believe that God will use this book in a very mighty way to help women who have experienced abuse to heal and become whole again." --Michele Gallina, A/G Missionary "Linda Settles has written a book that I can offer to survivors of abuse to help them come to terms with the emotional, spiritual, and psychological effects of abuse in their lives. I will definitely recommend Redeeming Our Treasures to members of my congregation." --Pastor Dale Hollin, Columbiaville, Michigan "Redeeming our Treasures is extremely direct, yet gentle enough for the reader to be able to endure its truth. I really like the way Linda brings things to the surface and then allows some reprieve for any feelings that may have been uncovered, validating them and sympathizing with them. It has stirred up many deep feelings and emotions for me, yet I don't feel threatened or extremely overwhelmed. I am amazed at the way she has captured emotion and experience and put it into words that I have never allowed myself to express or even think. This book has unburied many repressed emotions for me, and validated so many more. The validation is huge for me!" --Patty, Oxford, Michigan "This book changed my life!" --Kelliann, business owner, Lake Orion, Michigan "Linda, I am continually impressed at your strength and courage and wisdom! I hope this book finds its way into the office of every therapist in the world!" --Laura, Oxford, Michigan "Your book is outstanding! It helped me come to terms with what I went through and where I stand today. I found the end very comforting--it helped give me peace of mind. Many women could benefit from this book." --Emily, Sterling Heights, Michigan "Redeeming Our Treasures is worth ten years of counseling." --Renee Rowe, LMSW, ACSW, Oxford, Michigan "My husband is reading your book. I believe it will help him understand what I have been through. Thank you." --Bridgett, Lynchburg, Virginia |
