Something a little different..., April 30, 2006
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
I've been listening to Gackt for quite a while; and although many people have started to complain about his new sound I find it refreshing that he tries new things every now and then. Diabolos was definately a breathe of fresh air after his previous albums 'The Seventh Night' and 'Love Letter' delivered slow ballads. Redemption continues with the Diabolos sound of heavy guitar and a hard rock sound. LONGING parrallels Redemption with it's heavy sound, but it's composition is indeed unique with a short orchestrated piece in the middle of the song before returning to the harsh guitars. I think that it's quite fitting since this was afterall a theme to the Final Fantasy Game. Gackt's voice is still deep and gorgeous; although a bit rough it compliments the sound of these singles. I believe if you liked Diabolos then this single will not dissappoint.

Beyond my wildest dreams, March 8, 2006
When I found out about Dirge of Cerberus I was floored. I loved Vincent in Final Fantasy VII. But when I found out Gackt was providing the theme song. I didn't stop smiling for days.
For someone who is not a fan of Gackt, the two songs on the disc are great rock songs. They really match the feel of the game. This is a shooter game starring Vincent, a sort of vampire. Rock music seems to suit it.
Gackt uses a lot of instruments and techno sounds. These are beautifully balanced and convey a lot of emotion. Even though you can't understand the lyrics unless you speak Japanese, the emotional impact can still be felt.
The music video is unfortunately a region 2 disc so it may take some work to watch it. I think that it is worth the effort, especially if you are a Final Fantasy fan.
The first video is a regular music video for Redemption. The costume that Gackt is wearing was designed by Tetsuya Nomura who has designed for Final Fantasy since FF7. I loved it and watched it over and over.
If you get this for the Final Fantasy connection, then the second video is exactly what you want. Also using Redemption it showcases 5 minutes of footage from Dirge of Cerberus. The game looks simply gorgeous and (as I said before) the music is a wonderful match. And Gackt is also in there as a character in the game. He was filmed and digitally inserted into the game. It looks very good.
Unless you are a fan of either Gackt or Final Fantasy, then this may not be worth the effort to see the videos and I would recommend the less expensive version without the videos.
Finally, even if you are not a Gackt fan this is good music and if you are interested in Japanese music at all you should give this a try.

Gorgeous Songs from the best Artist out There, December 22, 2006
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
Gackt brings out another prefect set of songs. This time he's singing for Square's Final Fantasy Series; Dirge of Cerberus for Playstation 2.
I prefer Longing over Redemption but I love both songs and even if you don't even plan on picking up Dirge of Cerberus, pick up this CD because Gackt is the best Japanese singer out there!
And unlike Kingdom Hearts, where Square had Utada Hikaru sing both English and Japanese versions, Gackt only sings Japanese. There are no English versions.
