5.0 out of 5 stars Something a little different..., April 30, 2006
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
I've been listening to Gackt for quite a while; and although many people have started to complain about his new sound I find it refreshing that he tries new things every now and then. Diabolos was definately a breathe of fresh air after his previous albums 'The Seventh Night' and 'Love Letter' delivered slow ballads. Redemption continues with the Diabolos sound of heavy guitar and a hard rock sound. LONGING parrallels Redemption with it's heavy sound, but it's composition is indeed unique with a short orchestrated piece in the middle of the song before returning to the harsh guitars. I think that it's quite fitting since this was afterall a theme to the Final Fantasy Game. Gackt's voice is still deep and gorgeous; although a bit rough it compliments the sound of these singles. I believe if you liked Diabolos then this single will not dissappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond my wildest dreams, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
When I found out about Dirge of Cerberus I was floored. I loved Vincent in Final Fantasy VII. But when I found out Gackt was providing the theme song. I didn't stop smiling for days.

For someone who is not a fan of Gackt, the two songs on the disc are great rock songs. They really match the feel of the game. This is a shooter game starring Vincent, a sort of vampire. Rock music seems to suit it.

Gackt uses a lot of instruments and techno sounds. These are beautifully balanced and convey a lot of emotion. Even though you can't understand the lyrics unless you speak Japanese, the emotional impact can still be felt.

The music video is unfortunately a region 2 disc so it may take some work to watch it. I think that it is worth the effort, especially if you are a Final Fantasy fan.

The first video is a regular music video for Redemption. The costume that Gackt is wearing was designed by Tetsuya Nomura who has designed for Final Fantasy since FF7. I loved it and watched it over and over.

If you get this for the Final Fantasy connection, then the second video is exactly what you want. Also using Redemption it showcases 5 minutes of footage from Dirge of Cerberus. The game looks simply gorgeous and (as I said before) the music is a wonderful match. And Gackt is also in there as a character in the game. He was filmed and digitally inserted into the game. It looks very good.

Unless you are a fan of either Gackt or Final Fantasy, then this may not be worth the effort to see the videos and I would recommend the less expensive version without the videos.

Finally, even if you are not a Gackt fan this is good music and if you are interested in Japanese music at all you should give this a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Songs from the best Artist out There, December 22, 2006
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
Gackt brings out another prefect set of songs. This time he's singing for Square's Final Fantasy Series; Dirge of Cerberus for Playstation 2.

I prefer Longing over Redemption but I love both songs and even if you don't even plan on picking up Dirge of Cerberus, pick up this CD because Gackt is the best Japanese singer out there!

And unlike Kingdom Hearts, where Square had Utada Hikaru sing both English and Japanese versions, Gackt only sings Japanese. There are no English versions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gackt's new song for DOC is heaven for fans of J-rock, June 20, 2006
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
I ahve listened to Gackt ever since 2004, and I heard that he was going to record 2 songs for the upcoming DIRGER OF CERBERUS: FINAL FANTASY VIII game. They are "Redemption" and "Longing". "Redemption" is quite a punk rock classic, and will never die. The second is more softer., But overall, good songs, and I can't wait to hear it in DOC FF7.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm not a kid, I just don't have my own Amazon account., March 1, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
$[...] for four songs? Sounds kind of over-priced, right? Wrong.

Although there are four songs on here, two are just the instrumental versions, which I never listen to since I prefer them to have vocals. So for me it's more $[...] for two songs, and I'll never regret it. Both these songs are just.. amazing. This is an amazing single, usually, I think Gackt's music is just alright, with a few better than his average songs. But Redemption and Longing are just two fantastic songs. But saddly, they are just two songs, so not much to discuss here on them.

If you like Gackt, I'd say buy this and you shouldn't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Gackt single, July 17, 2010
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
This is the limited edition release of the single 'Redemption' from Camui Gackt, one of the biggest rock stars in Japan. It was released on 01.25.2006, with both sides of the single being used on the soundtrack of the popular video game 'Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus'. The single peaked at #3 on the Oricon charts, and ended up selling well over 120,000 copies. This is a non-album single, meaning that it does not appear on any of Gackt's studio releases; however, it is scheduled to be included in his upcoming 'The Eleventh Day: Singles Collection' due out in late July, 2010. Even to a huge Gackt fan (such as myself), 'Redemption really stands out as one of his better tracks and even though it's a pain to pay that much for a single with only 2 songs on it (not counting the instrumental/karaoke releases) it's definitely worth it to have the music.

Tracks:
1. Redemption
2. Longing
3. Redemption (instrumental)
4. Longing (instrumental)

The limited edition release comes in a DVD type case and contains the single CD with a bonus DVD that has two versions of the song 'Redemption'. One is the standard music video, and the other includes footage of the 'Dirge of Cerberus' game. Note that the DVD is region 2 before you pay extra for it, but the video and costuming is pretty cool so if you're a fan it's worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars so inspiring, March 4, 2009

"Redemption" is one of my favorite songs by Gackt. And "Longing" is full of hidden meanings. Once again, the instrumentals are amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gackt and Chachamaru Rock!!!, October 29, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Redemption (Audio CD)
In spite of these songs being soundtracks for a computer game (Dirge of Ceberus, which I don't even play), I purchased this cd because it's Gackt and I wasn't the least bit sorry. This CD does in only 4 songs (two of which are instrumental) what some bands can't even do with a full CD's worth of material, and that's saying something.

Gackt's vocals are just blistering here, and showcases his incredible range. However, the real treat here is his guitarist, Chachamaru, who just smokes! On 'Longing', Chacha goes full-on ballistic, delivering scorching licks that any metal guitarist would envy (and I hear he's got a solo album). I especially love the instrumental versions of 'Redemption' and 'Longing' where I get to really hear Chacha's talent.

Not to mention that Chacha is another extremely sexy bishonen male...an added bonus.

This CD is also getting heavy rotation on the old MP3 and is a great way to start even the dreariest of days. It's powerful, heady stuff from Gackt.
