5.0 out of 5 stars Maddie has delivered Redemption ., June 16, 2011

This review is from: Redemption Maddie (DVD)
This Independent Film is brought to life by The American Film Institue. And open's w/ three boy's talking , and waiting for their friend to finish an impromptu car date.At the local park, in the dead of night. The last boy to "meet" Maddie Clifford (played by a very young Allison Scagliotti (Nick's Drake n' Josh, and Warehouse 13). Who obviously goes to school w/ her. And briefly talk's about their science project's.(This is where we first hear about the topic of Rabbit's)Maddie then ask's the boy "Tyler"(played by Kevin Montmomery). To "join" her . We then see a brief cutaway to a young girl (played by Alexsandra Salling). That we later learn is young Maddie. Maddie then return's home late from the Park . To see her pill poppin Mother on the couch(played by Peggy Goss). Who show's little to no love, or interest in her. The next day we see Maddie scouting the local pet shop , for her science project. There she find's "The Rabbit". Maddie briefly pick's up a grey one , and ask's the clerk if it's a girl. Clerk say's yes, and then tell's her to put it down. Maddie tries to steal it , but get's caught. In the next scene,Maddie's disconnected Dad(played by Michael Catlin). Drive's her back home. And fail's at counciling Maddie. And accepting her dinner invitation. As he drive's away , Maddie show's her discontent for him. By making a gun fist. And blowing him away.

The beginning of this film doe's give the viewer the sense of coldness, and isolation the main character has within her small world. As the movie progresses , we slowly learn the existance of Maddie's small Brother "Chris"(played by Matthew Mosley). Who is the tragedy. That this family is living the after affect's of.

Maddie trie's to bring the family back together. In the form of Redemption. And Redemption has been delivered to Maddie.

As you watch the Movie. It raise's several question's for the viewer. Are the parent's to blame for the tragedy? Because they sent the kid's out of the kitchen, and Maddie was too young to babysit. Did Maddie's Mom's interest in her science project. The reason why she went ahead with the "Rabbit Test"? Why couldn't Maddie steal a pregnancy test, instead of the "Rabbit Test"? Did the "Rabbit Test" kill the Rabbit? Or was it because she used a "Tuberculin Shot" Hypodermic Needle, for the test? Did Maddie have "Multiple Relation's" w/ the boy's? To guarantee success, like "The Rabbit". Were the ornamental Jack o' Lantern's throughout the Movie a sign that it was Halloween? Or was it to emphasize the bleakness of the situation?

The Film is Approx. 22 Minute's long. But it is packed with Forshadowing. Throughout the Movie. We see a drained pool. That is a testament to the tragedy. Even the box cover show's the pool. "The Rabbit",of impending Life, and Death. "Maddie", laid out in her isolation. And the Movie Title font showing her young, and neiveness.

The Movie is unrated. But Parental Guidance should be used for children under 15 Year's. The story (by Aaron King,Rachel Morrison,Harry Maxon) is carefully weaved within a short amount of time. And is shot (by Aaron King), Produced (by Yoshi Tsuji),and edited (by Mike Darrow)with precision. The Production Design (by Christine Reigns)show's the mellow bleak, and coldness. And the Score (by Kristin Dyrud) bring's a light , and gentle calmness. Very strong subject matter for a very young, and talented Allison Scagliotti. Who bring's out the individual quirk's. In everything she doe's.(I dig Her Signature Eye Brow's.)

Redemption Maddie is available exclusivly through Amazon in DVD Video/Rom , and Download . A great little film to check out!

I abolutely loved this film. The acting was very good and the story was excellant. The only thing that could have been better is that the story seemed a bit rushed. (i know its a short film) but the story was good enough to fill at least an hour and a half, And I would have quite happily sat and watched it for that long. I cant recomend this film highly enough. Buy it, watch it, tell anyone who will listen about it.
