5.0 out of 5 stars Bleu=Nearly Perfect Power Pop
This record is just catchy-as-hell, the perfect combination of pop and rock, with plently of fuzzed-out guitars and gorgeous melodies. The guitar riffs are on the heavy side, but are balanced out by great vocals and harmonies. This record is just infectious. I think really anyone would like this, but it's especially a must for anyone who likes Fountains of Wayne,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Consistently decent
Nothing stands out as being exceptionally good, or exceptionally bad. I can groove to some of the tunes, but I don't think I'd miss the CD if I lost it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bleu=Nearly Perfect Power Pop, October 31, 2003

This record is just catchy-as-hell, the perfect combination of pop and rock, with plently of fuzzed-out guitars and gorgeous melodies. The guitar riffs are on the heavy side, but are balanced out by great vocals and harmonies. This record is just infectious. I think really anyone would like this, but it's especially a must for anyone who likes Fountains of Wayne, Semisonic, Nada Surf, or any other bands of their ilk. This record also takes the risk of adding the occaisional hair-metal harmonized lead guitar part (as they do on "Could Be Worse"), but it totally works. Really, just buy this record, this guy's got a great voice and superior songwriting skills and the result basically just rules.

Any fan of power pop needs to purchase this cd. Bleu is the Cheap Trick/Knack of the new millenium. Every song on this thing is great. I got it used on here for about $1.75...total bargain! I haven't stopped listening to it since.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power Pop At It's Finest, July 9, 2003
This review is from: Redhead (Audio CD)
It just doesn't get any better than this. From beginning to end this album is on a mission to rock ! Really focusing on the roots of the eclectic power pop sound, if you listen really hard you pinpoint all the different musical influences in the songs. It's eclectic, but approachable like the Man himself. Bleu is so kind and his music is so Grand.
I hear Beatles, Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, Weezer, Queen, ELO, Shoes, 20/20, Wondermints, maybe some Brendan Benson and more...
I highly recommend this album to anyone looking for some awesome Power Pop... sure to make your summer more fun.... He's even great live! So buy it , and turn it up full volume... And don't forget to listen to the secret tracks!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars UTTER GENIUS...BUT...BUT...THEY CHANGED IT!, June 24, 2003

First off, Bleu is a genius, and I am a total Bleuhead, the guy makes killer, individual, powerpop, somewhere inbetween Jellyfish and Todd Rundgren. I've been a fan since last summer, when I saw him open for delighful Japanese female duo PuffyAmiYumi in NYC. And, bottom line, pardon the pun, he blew me away!! Sooo, I met my new hero after the show, and he was as cool as I expected; all true powerpop people always are, no ifs, ands or buts. I asked him about a new record + deal (all he had at the show was copies of his 2000 Lunch Records release "Headroom", which is another great disc), so he said yeah, new deal with Aware/Columbia and a record out in September! I'm like, excellent!! Soooo, I see it out, and I get it as a promo. Waiting for the regular release in the stores...nothing. And it's pushed, and pushed, and pushed some more, well into 2003, supposedly out at the end of February, nope, nothing!! Then, come June, it's FINALLY out, woohoo! I pick it up, and I'm like, HUH??? Different cover, altered tracklisting, new catalogue number and switched distribution from Sony proper to Sony Red Ink! They removed 3 tracks, one of them my FAVOURITE, "Sayonara"! Two new Bleu songs, OK, soften the blow a bit, but "Sayonara" is genius, and what adds icing on the cake was the delightful backing harmonies of PuffyAmiYumi themselves!

The other 2 removed songs are "Feet Don't Fail", formerly from "Headroom", so no big deal, and "Ursula Major, Ursula Minor", another goodie. The 2 new songs are the opening "Get Up" and track 3, "That's When I Crash", which is very cool. I guess the best bet is to look for promos of the original "Redhead" (Aware/Columbia/Sony, cat# CK 86280), and get the newly released version. That way, you'll have all the songs.

Bleu is a genius, but they shouldn't have messed with the greatness that is Bleu's "Redhead". Plus, anyone who collaborates with Jellyfish's master Andy Sturmer, as well as PuffyAmiYumi, is cool in my book...go Bleu!

5.0 out of 5 stars ATTENTION PLEASE........FINALLY SOME TALENT, February 17, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Redhead (Audio CD)
Thank you Bleu, finally some great music with talent, variety and intelligence......about .......time as Stella McCartney said. As a jaded 40-something who experienced some phenomenal monumental musical creativity in the 80s-90s, but suffered from VH1 ennui after 2000, Bleu's Redhead was a much needed zephyr of muse that prevented me from hitching my wagon to "the oldies station". Bleu's fusion of 70's keyboards, 80's orchestrations, 90's guitar riffs and 00's archetypal styling, rejuvenated my ears. Not since XTC's Skylarking and Todd Rundgren's Liars have I been so riveted to an album. Don't just stand there, BUY THIS ALBUM your brain needs some real music....

5.0 out of 5 stars fun!, March 14, 2005

This review is from: Redhead (Audio CD)
I purchased this CD after seeing a patchy performance at a local club notorious for a sub-par P.A. system. Nevertheless, despite the questionable sound, Bleu's energetic songs came through loud and clear. Plus, he seems like an all-around nice guy--very funny.

The songs on Redhead are some of the finest power-pop compositions I've ever heard. Bleu has a strong voice, decent chops as a guitarist, and solid songwriting skills. Every song sounds absolutely great blasting from a car stereo in the middle of summer in the country. I sincerely hope he will continue to write and record music, simply because it is a joy to listen.

If you buy this CD, you will probably ask yourself the same question I did: "Why haven't I heard of this guy before?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy It, October 13, 2004

One of the best albums overall albums I've heard since Jellyfish's Spilt Milk. If you love the catchy, you'll love Bleu. Bleu's shamelessly catchy and rooted in old FM rock but he's also sincere and able to recycle that big 70s sound without sounding derivative. I consider live performance the litmus test for performers who pull from old sources and Bleu was stunning live in Chicago in 2003.

Take Bleu home with you and make love to him on your yellow couch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it., May 19, 2004

Yes, as many of the reviewers mentioned, I did get a chance to see Bleu live, and very close to me. I had no idea so many people knew who he was. Anyway, I adore this album, and I bought it after seeing him live and have no idea who he was to him becoming a favorite band of mine. I love "Feet Don't Fail" so much, and other songs like "Searchin' for the Satellites" make this album awesome. I swear, this guy could really go for a record deal. With rock becoming warped, we need to warp it in a GOOD way. We need a new voice. Put Bleu on the radio!

from start to finish, redhead is one of the finest rock and roll albums i have ever encountered. i love each and every song, and though i have listened to it countless times, i never tire of its clever lyrics, unreal vocals, and e.l.o-esque appeal. if you get the chance to see bleu live you should. he's awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars This rocks!, June 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Redhead (Audio CD)
Each song on this record display Bleu's amazing versitality as a songwriter with a voice to match. It's been awhile since I've heard a singer with such range and emotion.. Production on this record reminds me of the first time I heard bands like ELO, or Queen on the radio. But Bleu's sound still maintains it's own distinctive quality. It doesn't hurt that Andy Sturmer from Jellyfish, makes a co-writing and singing appearance...Pop/rock is back and Bleu is here to lead the way!
