A cheap and easy solution for blocking daylight.,
This review is from: Redi Shade 1817205 Black Out Pleated Shade 48-by-72-Inch, 6-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
If you're a nightshifter and you need to black out a bedroom in the daytime, this is a cheap and easy solution. These DO block the light - only a sliver of it escapes from the sides (because have to be slightly less wide than the window if you ever plan to open them again), but this is easily solved by hanging a second shade OVER the casement if you don't have curtains.
They were far cheaper than blackout drapes and they look nice, too. And they're lightweight enough that you could take one along when you travel ... I wish I'd had these on hand in a whole lot of hotels with fancy but worthless drapes. There were six in the package, which I mention because I asked Amazon's customer service how many were in the box and they had no idea.

We love these shades. What an inexpensive solution to the problem of daylight leaking in around the drapes when you want to sleep in late. We have them installed in every window of our home, behind our plantation shutters. I also think they help keep the rooms a bit cooler in summertime, and oh, that lovely pitch black when you want to sleep in. Wonderful. They are super easy to put up. The sticky strip is very durable. Ours have been up in our home for 7 years and haven't fallen once. I have actually bought extras over the years, and packed them or shipped them ahead to my families homes when we visit. I put them up there so I can sleep in. (I am a light sleeper and wake up at first light streaming in.) My sister has left then up in her guest room for me, behind her miniblinds. When they are raised and clipped up, you cannot really notice them behind the miniblinds, so they aren't unattractive from outside or inside. Now granted, these are paper shades, with a very thin waxy laminate on the back to give them a little durability, and they are folded accordian like to raise or lower. They come with two plastic clips to hold them up when raised. My point being these aren't the height of elegance. I wouldn't have them up on a bare window permanently, as they aren't quite attractive enough for that in my opinion. But as an option behind existing blinds to block the light, or as a temporary fix for privacy and darkness til window coverings are permanently installed, these little guys are great.
Hints for installing. Cut them the exact width of the window opening so that they are a snug fit in the opening, not just the width of the glass, or the light will shine in on the sides. Also, buy the black color black-out shades. The white ones don't block out the light as well. These are nice and wide, but you can overlap them and maybe tape them together if you need them wider.

the blackout shades are great for temporary use and sure do keep the room dark for late sleepers on sunny days.
they are shipped in a thin and inadequate carton and arrived bent. they still served their purpose, but for about $.20 more the manuf. could use a stronger carton. this is NOT UPS damage. it is inadequate packaging

I bought these blackout shades to use in my 10 month old's bedroom. I used these blackout shades on the french door windows, as well as on her main exterior window. They work wonderfully! Her daytime naps are now more comfortable and relaxing in her bedroom. I also used them in our master bedroom on our exterior window and on our arched eyebrow picture window. We live in Alaska and with all our daylight during the summer, these affordable, temporary blackout shades are our answer to getting some sleep! They are easy to install and I even ordered the free book on decorative touches to add to the shades...something I didn't do, but would if I had the time.

I purchased these shades because they were installed in the windows of my last apartment, and they seemed to do a good job of blocking out light. However, when I installed them on the larger windows of my new home, they proved to be a terrible purchase. These are indeed made of paper, and I knew that before I purchased them. I thought, "even though they are made of paper, they completely black out my windows, and I'm willing to pay for that." Construction paper was not a deal-breaker for me, because they really do block out most of the light, even on sunny days.
The fatal flaw of this product is that the adhesive strip used to hold them to the window frame simply does not hold the weight of the blinds. I purchased a pack of 6, but ended up throwing 3 away!! They kept falling down, and sticking to themselves, rendering them completely useless! To be fair, they did work on smaller windows, but my windows here are 42" high (not THAT big) and they just kept falling. The other problem, although slightly less problematic, is cutting them to size is not easy. I used a utility knife, and had to really saw through them. Pros: Once installed, they will BLACK OUT your windows. Cons: May simply fall down, stick to themselves, and end up in the recycle bin. Bottom line: Only purchase for small windows, if you're willing to risk the money.

Even though I expected a low quality product, I didn't expect it to be this bad.
They work, no sunlight comes thru them. They are very flimsy, though. They've only been up for one day and they're already very wrinkly. Also, they are shorter than I expected. I mean, they ARE 72" long, but only if you stretch them completely flat, which NEVER happens during normal use. I don't recommed this product. It's not that cheap either.

I bought this product to improve my daughter's naps. Several reviews mentioned that this shade made it look like "midnight" in your room. I didn't expect it to be that great but it really is like midnight! My daughter has a large window in her room so two of these shades covered it perfectly and I can't believe how dark it is. Great product! Be aware, however, that this is pretty much pleated butcher paper. You're not paying for high quality.

Redi shade,
This review is from: Redi Shade 1817205 Black Out Pleated Shade 48-by-72-Inch, 6-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
This shade served the purpose for which we bought it - to block out the light from the outside. It is tedious to put up though, and has to be glued together side by side to fit wider windows, but we sleep better. Would I spend that much for black paper folded into an accordion again? Probably not.

Great Item!,
This review is from: Redi Shade 1817205 Black Out Pleated Shade 48-by-72-Inch, 6-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased the items and for the cost and how simple it was to hang: It is well worth the price. Not only did the black colored shades darken the room, it has completely cooled my apartment. I live in Texas and today it was extremely HOT! I finally put the shades up today and within an hour or so...the apartment felt cooler. If your window is wider you can always overlap two to fit. No complaints here!

I work graveyard shift, so I purchased these Redi Shade Black out pleated shades to help keep my room dark while I sleep during the day. The shades do a great job in keeping the room dark, unfortunately my windows face south. The sun beams down on it all day and the black color of the Redi Shade absorbs heat. I found myself only able to sleep into the late morning before I am awoken in a cave of heat. Unfortunately for me, this product won't work for my situation. But for all other purposes, it does the job!
