5.0 out of 5 stars does the job, August 17, 2007

I bought these shades to keep the summer heat out. They were easy to put up and have proven to be quite sturdy considering they are a temporary solution. It's easy enough to clip them up or let them down. The light can filter in but it helps keep the room cool

We bought these to serve as temporary blinds until we had our vertical blinds installed. They are super-easy to install. You just peel off the backing on the sticker at the top and stick them to the top of the window/door/etc. They look very nice and pretty classy for the price (though the clips you need to hold the blinds up detract from the "classy" part). I could see using them as permanent blinds if you didn't need to open and close them. I say that because the product is basically just heavy paper in an accordion fold. So constant opening and closing them (using the included clips) will quickly wear on the paper and make it more and more likely that the paper will crease in the wrong place.

I would highly recommend them as temporary blinds or permanent blinds for a space where you don't need to open them (or open them only rarely). For those who want to use them as temporary blinds, note that they come off very easily. The sticky strip apparently used a rubber-cement like glue that comes off easily and with no remaining residue. If you need to adjust the width, they are easy to cut with a good pair of household scissors (though the instructions recommend a cutting knife).

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for temp, April 15, 2009
This review is from: Redi Shade 3242642 White Temporary Window Shades, 48-by-90-Inch, 2-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
For a few weeks until you get settled they are great, after that, they get to be a pain trying to raise and lower because they are paper.

5.0 out of 5 stars redi shade review, January 21, 2009

I bought the longest and widest redi shade they sell. I live in an apartment with a french sliding window which almost covers the whole wall and there is lot of natural light. I needed something to cut out the glare from the sun in afternoon/evenings and still have enough light in my living room and this shade was just right for that purpose.
I didn't want to spend a lot of money on curtains and didn't want to drill holes in the wall to hold the curtains. It serves best for my needs and its cheap and am happy with the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price and concept, September 7, 2010

This review is from: Redi Shade 3242642 White Temporary Window Shades, 48-by-90-Inch, 2-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this based on other reviews. It does a great job of covering up my windows and it doesn't look too awful. I live in a studio and didn't want to buy expensive window treatments, and since it's such a small space, didn't want to buy anything without being careful as to how I want to decorate it.

This was a great, inexpensive way to quickly get some shades up for privacy without making a real commitment on window treatments.

The paper tears easily, but once it's up, it should be fine. I don't really put my paper blinds up since I'm not home during the day anyway. It works well on my window that has an air conditioner as well - I just cut it to size and clipped it with the given clips to the unit.

I will say that cutting it was a bit difficult, but I had dinky little scissors.

Look good for temporary shades, you can cut them to size, and they're super easy to "install". I got a nasty paper cut while mounting it to the window though so be careful!

These are crazy easy to install. I just moved into a house with tons of windows and did not want to force myself into purchasing window treatments quickly. These shades provide privacy and a little bit of insulation too. If you plan to raise and lower these often, however, since they are paper they may be a pain.

I have used these for several years now in various places: I long to do something "fancy" (e.g., cover them/ cord them), but so far have only been using them. Very good, Redi Shades are, indeed.

We had to trim ours a bit to fit the width of our windows... easy to do! And I was very suprised that they do not look cheap at all--I don't think anyone even knows they are paper! I have pointed it out to a few guests and they are surprised and say they would have never known.
