5.0 out of 5 stars Redington entry level delivers
With a trip planned to fish the flats by Little Talbot Island I needed a fly rod heavier than my TFO 5 wt., but couldn't spend a lot of money. After looking around for a few weeks I found the Redington Crosswater 8 wt. combo. Of course it is an entry-level fly rod/reel for Redington, but at least I was getting a reputable company name for the price I was looking to pay...

1.0 out of 5 stars JUNK-JUNK-JUNK...........
Bought a Redington rod last year for a fly fishing trip to Alaska. Broke the first day after 6 casts. Contacted Redington and received no customer service. You have to cross all your T's and dot all your I's to make a warranty claim. And, then they will charge you to inspect the product so they can decide if they want to warrant their product. Never dealt with a company...

Never dealt with a company with worse customer service. I'd buy a rod from any other manufacturer before I'd deal with this company again. They don't deserve to be in business.

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not live up to the name, dissatisfied customer, July 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I thought this would be a great combo for the price, but I was shocked once I used it. The first shock was the cheap plastic or graphite reel which turned me off with a start. Then it does not cast worth two cents. I waisted a trip trying to use this thing in a stream. Get a temple fork for just a little more and be a happy customer. Make your money count. The redington name use to mean something. Trying to save money by making making cheap products close companies and lose customers. They just lost me. I loved my first cross water reel. The one that comes with this combo is good for a child to play with or the trash can.

With a trip planned to fish the flats by Little Talbot Island I needed a fly rod heavier than my TFO 5 wt., but couldn't spend a lot of money. After looking around for a few weeks I found the Redington Crosswater 8 wt. combo. Of course it is an entry-level fly rod/reel for Redington, but at least I was getting a reputable company name for the price I was looking to pay. I was pleased when my purchase arrived and even more pleased at its performance. It casts easy enough for my casting style and although its not a high-end, high-dollar rig it worked beautifully. Considering the fact that I will very seldom need an 8wt., I'm quite happy with the product. Avidmax was the store this order shipped from and even though there was some initial confusion on my next day air order, they went above and beyond to assure I would have the product in hand before leaving on my trip. I highly recommend them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combo for any fly guy or gal!!, January 4, 2011

This Redington rod/reel combo is very nice!! It has all the bells and whistles for this price range and is nicely built and put together. It's light weight which is a necessary thing when hiking or fishing all day long. I've had the experience of flinging a heavier combo and trust me you will never want to experience that. The design and colors are really nice as well. I would recommend this to anyone new to fly fishing or someone that is just looking for a more affordable setup that is great and doesn't cost $$$$$.
