"Greatest" awful movie EVER,
By
This review is from: Redline (DVD)
I just watched this movie and can without a doubt say this is the BEST awful movie of the year. That is to say, I have never laughed so hard at a movie trying to be so serious. YOU HAVE TO RENT THIS MOVIE, at the very least. The acting is atrocious. The writing, worse. My friends and I, as we watched, said such things as:
-"Tim Matheson just threw coke at that prostitute..." -"Well, it's good to know he's comfortable playing himself in this movie." and "This movie has the highest production value I've ever seen in a soft core porno." My friend at one point also screamed, "UNCONSCIOUS BOOBS!" And he's right. There was actually on scene in which the director went so far as to showcase a characters boobs when she was being wheeled into an ambulance after being knocked out in a car wreck. In other words, amazing. If you want to laugh, rent Redline.

Very good tense race/chase scenes,
By scherf.com "scherf.com" (Las Vegas, NV USA) - See all my reviews The flair comes with Las Vegas as a backdrop for the most part, exotic cars and excellent race/chase scenes - these are some of the best ever made. The music is hip-hop and only so-so except for one song here and there. The director and cameraman seem to have been overly enthusiastic about showing booty as there's plenty of that in this flick from every angle imaginable - it's supposed to add a sexy touch I guess. This movie is so obvious about the producer, Sadek, having a passion about fast exotic cars and incorporating his interest into a film, ... and as it wasn't a low budget movie, I just wish they had consulted some top Hollywood pros to flesh out the storyline and to give it some depth and then it may have reached at least the Fast&Furious level, ... but maybe that wasn't the intention for this flick. With some clever scripting, etc. this film would have had so much potential especially with the budget at hand and the availability of so many great cars. The 3 stars are for the excellent photography of the breathtaking race/chase scenes and stunts as well as to some aspects of stylish ambience in some scenes.

REDLINE
I really have never been more disappointed in a movie before, I should have known from a Fast & Furious knock off. I was never a huge fan of those three films so I should not have expected much from this movie, but Eddie Griffin was in it so I just had to buy it. For that reason alone I bought this movie and now I am not sure if it was reason enough, Griffin is a great entertainer, this movie is far from entertaining. It seems every time I just buy something for one reason or another with out seeing it I end up regretting it, there are a few exceptions like "Illusion" but those a very few. The Fast & the Furious was entertaining, 2 Fast 2 Furious was at least some what entertaining, and even Tokyo Drift was much better then this despite it being about high school kids. The plot [if there really is one] and story is about a lady who is good at racing and is forced into it, and a guy who comes back from the military only to witness his brother die in a race. Sure that sounds kinda good but trust me it really is not all that great, but you can see were the potential was. The idea seems a little ok when you read it on paper or on a screen but the execution is really not grand at all and should have been handed over to Fast & the Furious guys for a part four. If that would have happened maybe it would have been at the very least ok. I don't enjoy speaking ill of any film because I really believe no one wants to make a bad movie but come on this movie needs help in a bad way. The story follows a man that comes home from the military just to find his younger brother involved in an illegal racing circuit working for their uncle who is a very shaky sketchy guy. At the same time a woman who is forced into racing becomes the uncles new prize when he wins her from Eddie, of course these two come together when his little brother dies and they go against the big bad uncle. Producer/co-writer Daniel Sadek seems to be proud of the final product but I have to believe that is just a front because I would not be happy with this final product. I guess most of the blame should fall on Sadek and Robert Foreman as they wrote this disaster, their story is almost non existent and the characters are not very dimensional at all. You would think that the story would be some what ok, I mean even the F & the F franchise tried a little harder. Director Andy Cheng it seems may want to stick to stunt work because this film is no were near great, although I liked his debut "End Game" so maybe he just didn't have the write script. Still the direction is not there and the final product suffers for it, he needs to care more about projects I guess. The acting is bad and I mean bad for this type of film, I say that because this was not a direct to DVD feature it actually had a theatrical run. As unbelievable as that it is you should see the performances in this movie, some are ok but most are bad. Eddie Griffin is one of the few to do an ok job in this film, but you can tell that he was in this for a pay check. Same can be said for Tim Matheson since he seems believable in this film as hard as that is to pull off. Every one else just seems to be on cruise control and maybe it is because they are there for a pay check, or maybe it is because the are not good you decide. I don't know, Angus Macfadyen as the uncle was ok and good in the villain role but Nadia Bjorlin should be ashamed with her performance. Nathan Phillips should feel the same way because I know he can do better then this right here. This is not a good movie in my mind and I do not really recommend it to any body unless you like cars or want to see a few good looking women. Those are honestly the only reasons to see this movie, and let's be honest are they reason enough.

A gorgeous young automobile fanatic--and front to the hottest unsigned band on the West coast--finds herself caught up in illegal drag-racing competitions organized for the pleasure of a bunch of bored billionaires. A great movie for people are who into Cars and girls. This is captivating for the younger, out going audience so I wouldn't expect any book club members to undersatnd the action.

Not anywhere near as bad as Fastlane (2009),

This is not anywhere near as bad as Fastlane Fast Lane but then it's not anywhere near as good as the first The Fast & the Furious either. The acting is wooden but watchable again not as bad as Fastlane. The cars are good and it's nice to see proper muscle car classics and super cars getting properley raced and crashed. View it as a good DTV movie and you'll be OK with it.
The filming is not bad and the sound is quite good. Worth a watch if you know your super cars & muscle cars but don't pay much or rent it.

Love the cars but not this movie. Even Vin Diesel would not star in this one. Just because you got fast cars, sexy women and music does not complete the formula for a good movie. RENT it, don't buy. Give it as a gift to your stoned friends.

car crashes and cleavage,
By
This review is from: Redline (DVD)
Hitting what may well be a new low in pointless moviemaking, "Redline" is strictly for all those potbellied cases of arrested development who have never moved beyond the tacky, car-and-sex-drenched fantasies of puberty. In this mind-numbingly inane racing melodrama, million dollar sports cars race all over creation going vroom-vroom while submissive, scantily clad bimbos stand around showing off their cleavage. What 13-year old boy - or the middle-aged equivalent thereof - could resist such an offering?
This is a work of such perfect, unimaginable awfulness that there simply has to be a special place reserved for it in some hall of movie infamy. The "plot" is so utterly preposterous and incoherent that it is not worth the time or effort it would take to either recap or discuss it. The acting is laughable, while the photography and editing are amateurish in the extreme. Heck, even the racing scenes themselves lack conviction and excitement. If you squint hard enough, you might be able to view the whole thing simply as "camp" - though I'd hate to give the people who made this film that much credit. "Redline" has all the depth, professionalism and cinematic expertise of a high school video project. A true embarrassment for all concerned.

The One Star Crowd is Lost..EXOTIC AUTO LOVERS, BUY THIS ONE!,

I sadly almost did not buy this movie due to the numerous one star reviews comparing it to the "Fast & Furious". I couldn't stand that movie and you say this one is actually worse? Is that possible? Those who compare this movie to the fore mentioned are simply fools and have no comprehension or appreciation for exotic automobiles. If you're not into ultra high end, super exotic high end performance automobiles pass on this movie, you won't understand it. Clearly the majority of the one star reviewers find ultra high performance autos boring. Then don't view it! Why did you watch it? What did you expect to see? Try a Seinfeld re-run or maybe dog racing is more your style. No other movie(s) in history including all the James Bond Films, Transporter Series, Iron Man Series have the exotic auto count of this excellent movie. Compare it to Fast & Furious? 30K Hondas with Nitrous? Are you kidding me! Here's a partial line up of the autos you'll see in full race form.."Porsche Carrera GT" worth about 415K, 1 of only 399 made "Ferrari Enzo" worth about 670K, "Saleen S7" about 555K, Sweden's "Konenseig CCX" worlds fastest production automobile valued at 546K. NO COMPUTER GRAPHICS! ALL REAL ACTION! Yes there are the low end cars too...Maybe that's where the one stars are coming from. A "Mercedes SLS Gullwing"...Yep, the one star crowd can buy one of those for 200K....and if that's a little more than you can afford try the "Ford GT40"....A used 2005 will run you a mere 140K. Sure there's Maybachs, Rovers and the hot girls too. A truly entertaining movie for high end exotic auto voyeurs. Price of admission is less than a ticket for an international high end car show and it's right it your living room. Turn it up, light up your subwoofer and enjoy!

Red Line should have been sidelined.,

I'm not sure who gave this film the "green light" to be made, but fans of this genre will be woefully disappointed with this inept film.
The cars in this film are awesome, the racing and crash sequences are thrilling, and the women are out of this world knockouts, but these three things alone or in any combination can't save a film. The script was apparently written by one barely out of grammar school since no one utters an intelligent thought throughout this lame film. The plot suffers from . . . oh come on, what plot!!???!!!! The actors, and I mean ALL the actors could be out-acted by TV commercial actors at any given moment. I've seen more sparkle in the eyes of the models on "The Price is Right" than any five women in this film combined. They all look like they are reading their lines off of the giant billboards in the background. Although the story is highly predictable, the car races are, nevertheless, suspenseful and fun to watch. The photography and stunt work in the film are very admirable and as expected for this genre. Sadly, these are the only compliments I can really give this film. I know car enthusiasts will want to crucify me for hammering this film, but sexy girls and fast cars do not make a film of any quality. |
