Biography

New Jersey rapper Redman made his initial impact with Whut? Thee Album in 1992. He blended reggae and funk influences with topical commentary and displayed a terse, though fluid rap style that was sometimes satirical, sometimes tough, and sometimes silly. Redman returned in 1994 with his second album, Dare Iz a Darkside, which was a harder album than his debut. Muddy Waters, Redman's third album, followed in 1996; he returned two years later with Doc's da Name. The rapper and actor Redman was born Reginald Noble in New York in 1970. In addition to his solo career, he is a member of Def Squad and has had successful collaborations with Method Man and Christina Aguilera.

His debut album Whut? Thee Album, a blend of funk and reggae influences, went on to gold sales and earned him The Source magazine's Rap Artist of the Year tag. The follow-up, although well received by critics, failed to sell as well as his debut. He hit form again with Muddy Waters, promoted by "Whateva Man" and "It's Like That (My Big Brother)", and the album achieved gold sales.
