GOOD OL' REDNECK FRUN FROM FOXWORTHY,
This review is from: Redneck Extreme Mobile Home Makeover: Or A Redneck Look at Fixing Up and Decorating Your House Without Loss of Limbs (Paperback)
Well I guess I will prove the first reviewer wrong and add a second review. I first saw Jeff Foxworthy a number of years ago on a Rodney Dangerfield comedy special. I have to admit I thought his schtick was funny but that it wouldn't have much mileage but after almost twenty years Foxworthy seems to be going stronger than ever and his audience never seem to tire of his red neck jokes. This book is, of course, a parody of the ABC TV show Extreme Home Makeover, done with Foxworthy's ever-expanding array of "You might be a redneck if..." jokes. Is Foxworthy for everyone? Certainly not, but then neither was Richard Pryor or many other stand-ups. Bottom line is that Foxworthy has found a self-deprecating theme that his target audience likes and he's ridden it hard.
The book is emblazoned with a lovely foam pink flamingo on the cover, right in front of a dilapidated mobile home. The book features very funny illustrations by David Boyd who reminds me of the late, great Jack Davis, long time cartoonist at Mad magazine. Among the gems in this book are: "You might be a redneck if..." Your best China traces the career of Loretta Lynn Your lawn mower says "Moooo" Your toilet tissue is Taco Bell napkins You've ever video taped a yard sale You're registered at the Dollar Store You use a hubcap as an ashtray. Good, harmless fun from Foxworthy! Reviewed by Tim Janson

Jeff Foxworthy has created his own genre of humor, and after all these years he is still one of the best humorists around. He has that ,seemingly natural, ability of observing that wonderful human condition of the thinking man to be able to look at a somewhat useless object and finding another use for it.In this book,he centers on his favourite characters, the Rednecks;but in this book he shows us that we all have a bit if Redneck in all of us.When I was in the Army, training emphasized improvision and encouraged the thought process of not giving up when the normal item was not available;to put your thinking cap on and find something else to suit the need.Today, when we are inundated with "Stuff" there is a limitless supply of things that can fulfill other needs.Foxworthy sees great humor in this;but on further reflection,he is really teaching us something. If you ever wondered why so many farms and other places had so much "Junk" laying around;it was kept for the simple reason "you never know,it might come in handy some day".The ability to see an alternative use,if only for decoration" has become ingrained in our genes,as a result of the mother of invention spirit handed down from our forbearers. Here are just a couple of things to convince you that Rednecks are thinkers as well as humorous. I have a friend with a an excellent large backyard vegetable and flower garden.Everyone knows the importance of keeping weeds under control and moisture for the plants. Instead of hoeing between the rows and buying and spreading mulch;to retain the moisture;he retrieves thrown out carpeting from the garbage;he brings it home, cuts it in strips and lays it between the rows. His garden is a wonder to behold,a pleasure to walk through, and amazingly easy to maintain. At the end of the season,he returns the carpeting to the garbage;and gets a new supply ,free ,each year. Then, how's this for some real Redneck thinking? I was driving along a highway in Nova Scotia ,out in the country, and came across a small roadside snack shop and rest stop.A number of cars had stopped and were patronizing the stand. The attraction that pulled in the customers was about thirty or so "scarecrows" ,all attired in various costumes such as cops, farmers, soldiers, firemen, nurses, ballet dancers, baseball players, hobos, etc. The owner started it all innocently with one or two; customers now drop off the things to make additional. Pure Redneck;but very enjoyable and people stand next to them have their photos taken. Foxworthy sure has a great knack of observation, and before you laugh at a Redneck;just ask yourself "Did you ever see an unhappy one"If what they do bothers you---well buddy, that's your problem!!

I bought this for the amusing cover. The insides are a collection of Jeff Foxworthy's redneck jokes. The cover is the funniest part, in my opinion.

Jeff Foxworthy continues his wildly successful and hilarious 'redneck' jokes with a new presentation even more effective than many of his others, REDNECK EXTREME MOBILE HOME MAKEOVER - complete with plastic flamingo on the cover. These are more 'you might be a redneck if' jokes, providing home-oriented comments many will relish and not a few will recognize.
