1.0 out of 5 stars Derivative, Trite, and Racist
Charlie Daniels Band has gained national praise (and notoriety) with his song "The Last Fallen Hero," mass-marketed patriotism for those who need it. However, Mr. Daniels has shown his true colors in such songs as "This Ain't No Rag, It's A Flag" which contains the lyrics "This ain't no rag it's a flag/and you don't wear it on your head" a...

4.0 out of 5 stars Charlie plays gold again, September 16, 2002

Charlie and the gang really put out a good cd; reflective of his old southern style work. the best is the awesome cut The Last Fallen Hero, a tribute to 9/11. Southern Boy, High Speed Heroes, and the instrumental Crosstown Traffic are all exceptional. I only wonder why Charlie chose to re-record 3 songs from his Same Ol' Me album (Little Joe, Fais Do Do, & My Baby Plays Me Like A Fiddle---although they are still great cuts) And of course, Red Neck Fiddlin' Man is one of the best CDB songs of all time. keep up the good work charlie

Charlie Daniels Band has gained national praise (and notoriety) with his song "The Last Fallen Hero," mass-marketed patriotism for those who need it. However, Mr. Daniels has shown his true colors in such songs as "This Ain't No Rag, It's A Flag" which contains the lyrics "This ain't no rag it's a flag/and you don't wear it on your head" a disgustingly (and blatantly) racist sentiment. Ignorance aside, Mr. Daniels' music is derivative and unoriginal, often including a racist, homophobic, and xenophobic edge to it. Truly, if you're looking for innovative, colorful, and original music - look elsewhere. The new Johnny Cash album (The Man Comes Around) is beautiful, haunting, and much less hate-filled. While Mr. Daniels may have some ability with the fiddle, it's nothing new (or interesting.) It's been done before, better, many many times.
