Pleased with Redshift 7,
By Jenny (Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Redshift 7 Premium (DVD-ROM)
First of all I am a beginner in astronomy. The guided tours proved to be very helpful, since they explain all kinds of phenomena in an understandable way. It is also fun to see how the sky would look like if it was dark at noon or go back in time and see what was going on in the sky on my birthday. Redshift 7 Premium is very powerful with many filters and functions. It takes some time to get to know the options and not everything is where you would expect it at first. However the help is very detailed and the service is excellent. So overall a Big Bang for the Buck :)

Great Planetarium Software for everyone,
By Ron (Virginia) - See all my reviews

Redshift 7 runs great on my Vista computer!
This software has a wide variety of multimedia content (covers space missions, solar system, constellations, etc.), which is well suited for beginners and intermediates. Compared to Google Sky, and the like, it is scientifically precise and therefore you can plan observations and have a realistic model of the night sky. Getting acquainted with the menu structure took some getting used to, but I guess that is part of learning how the software works. All in all Redshift 7 is an amazing value for $80!

Redshift 7 and Vista,

Redshift 7 Premium is running perfectly on
my Fujitsu, Vista Home Premium computer. This is, in my opinion, by far the best astronomy software on the market. I have tryed a lot of them! It is the most versatiled of them all. You can change most everything to suit Your way of using the software. A nice feature is, where other softwares uses a picture of the sky as background, Redshift lets the computer generate every star and other objects whit its own motion. Peter Andersson Sweden

I love it. Am enjoying it very much. I live in a city where night views are almost nonexistant, but I have my own night views anytime I want. Thanks.

Red Shift 7 a disappointment and Maris support more so.,

Before I purchased Red Shift 7 Premium I contacted Maris and was assured it would run on a 64-bit Vista machine. It runs but not so hot. For instance: the info bar at the bottom of the screen flickers annoyingly unless the mouse is moving and the date bar will only accept 3 digits of a 4-digit year. In addition, there are more issues I would like to discuss with Maris but they aren't responding. I reinstalled it but no change. I'd return my copy if I could and buy Starry Night.

The best astronomical planetarium program ever on Amazon.com,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Redshift 7 Premium (DVD-ROM)
I have the all the Redshift programs from version two and further. It is good that Amazon.com sells also different programs. Not just computer games. Redshift 7 for example is in itself at least 40 university points in astronomy If you could reveal the whole CD. I hope that Amazon.com continue too sell uppdated versions of redshift. It is really an astonishing program that gives apetite to study the science. )The features in coming redsgift programs could be enhanced by possibilites too work with the astronomers computer SIMBAD and a feature for example how to build an own solar system and test with different stellar objects stars and planets if it is possible to make a solar system that could contain life through the Fysical laws of Newton and Einstein. Thankyou for continuing selling this astonishing and important software.

This software was purchased to replace an earlier version of the product, Redshift 5. As I had ordered the disk, rather than simply download the software, I had hoped that the manual would be included, but it was not. The software itself is as good as expected and has no problem running on Microsoft Vista which my previous version had.
Great product.

Avoid Redshift 7!,

This review is from: Redshift 7 Premium (DVD-ROM)
This program is the worst! The only Guided Tours that worked were the ones that only had 1 section. Many tours have multiple sections. Forget product support, there isn't any! There is a forum where you can post a question, and hope that another user can help. Don't hold your breath, because nobody's on it. I tried upgrading the program and had to pay an extra $12.99, only to find out the download wouldn't work. The next day the web site is down for maintanance. This was a couple of days ago. As of this writing, it's still down!

Windows XP???!!!,

I can't believe that this NEW product is apparently incompatible with Vista!! Shades of Redshift 5, whose users were left with software that has severe problems in the Vista environment, or forced to upgrade to Redshift 6, which was never sold in the US. One can only hope that the WINDOWS XP limitation tag on this product is an oversight and it is actually capable of running in a Vista environment. If so, who is responsible for this gross oversight and how do you expect to sell this product in the 21st century?

Since I am an 88 year old amateur astronomer who is no longer doing much in that wonderful world I bought it merely on the promise of the advertising.
I currently have 2 planetarium programs on my computer. I use them daily - just like I was going to be out all night looking at the wonders of the sky. My first and best is Skyglobe. Somewhat slow and based, believe it or not, on DOS! It still works fine. The other is Hnsky, a freebie available on the internet, which seems to be a bit more accurate. Redshift 7 is a fine program but I am not one to zoom around the universe. I have therefore put donated it to the pile of door prizes for some younger person to win at Wisconsin Observers Weekend, July 23-25th. Bob Peterson |
