About the Author

The late Jack Magestro was a retired educator who spent years wandering the back reaches of the Caribbean and Mexico. At home, he tried to maintain order in spite of the behaviors of his dachshund, Belle. She usually wreaked havoc around the house -- and everywhere else. Jack was "owned" by his late wife Jill and Belle, and lived in a small town in Wisconsin. He is missed by many, but his kind spirit survives in all three of the REDSTRIPE books.

This book is a real love story about the pure affection and enthusiasm that dogs, particularly our "hotdogs" (I have two), generate. And, it does so with humor and optimism in the spirit of Herriot.

I particularly liked the Christmas story which celebrated the unique gifts given to us by this breed, while humanizing-- but still respecting-- the manger scene.

This book is a must for any dachshund lover or dog lover. Jack captures the essence (and quirks) of the breed with his stories. I had the pleasure of "getting to know" Jack and Belle via the on-line dachshund email list a few years back and was thrilled to see his stories in print for everyone to enjoy.
