About Reebok
Reebok's United Kingdom-based ancestor company was founded for one of the best reasons possible: athletes wanted to run faster. So, in the 1890s, Joseph William Foster made some of the first known running shoes with spikes in them. By 1895, he was in business making shoes by hand for top runners; and before long his fledgling company, J.W. Foster and Sons, developed an international clientele of distinguished athletes. In 1958, two of the founder's grandsons started a companion company that came to be known as Reebok, named for an African gazelle.

About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. In addition, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Fine - After A Little Work, October 7, 2005

In summary: The machine is solid, smooth and provides a great workout - I like the installed programs and i-fit features. Pay someone to put this together if you are not a serious do-it-yourselfer. The instructions are inadequately supported with troubleshooting advice should you have a problem and the assembly diagrams are not very clear on some details. Look on the website if you run into trouble!

If you are a do-it-yourselfer like me, this will take about 2 or 3 hours to unpack and assemble. It went together fine for me but I experienced a similar problem as the other reviewer - the panel beeped after a few seconds and then shut down. After reading the instructions (it helps to do this) I noticed that the panel shuts down automatically after you stop exercising. A little logic suggests the panel was not receiving a signal from a sensor somewhere that detects motion. Having owned a Nordic Track in the past, I knew this sensor was probably located on a flywheel somewhere... A quick trip to the reebok website and I found a solution in the troubleshooting section - the "reed sensor", located on the flywheel, needed adjustment or was defective. After removing the covers over the flywheel at the back of the machine (just a few screws) I located and adjusted this sensor but the panel still beeped and shut down after a few seconds. Undaunted, I traced the wire from the sensor and found that it was not plugged in to the computer/circuit board - there is not a good positive connection for this wire and it probably came loose during final assembly or shipping - certainly a defective design or part! Anyway, everything works fine now and we are very happy and sweaty. This little excursion in troubleshooting added another 2 or 3 hours to the assembly. I give the machine 5 stars but the assembly and troubleshooting I give 3 stars. (I have seen much worse...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Machine!, November 5, 2005
I have this elliptical and love it! It did take my husband 2-3 hours to put it together...but no weird beeping like the other reviewers. It works perfectly, extremely smooth, and very quiet. I had tested probably a dozen ellipticals before buying this one and none of the others could match the stability or more natural feeling stride that this elliptical provides. I highly recommend this elliptical!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't get anything from this company, November 11, 2005

(REAL NAME)
I bought this machine in August and the incline feature has NEVER worked correctly. Customer service is very hard to get ahold of, with long wait times each time you call. The incline is supposed to go from 10 degrees to 30 degrees at the touch of a button, however mine does not have the range it is supposed to. It moves maybe 10% of that distance, all on the top side of it, so it is set very high. Calibration has not remedied the problem. They tried sending me a new console which did not fix it. Then they sent me a new incline motor and I had to call multiple times before finally they would agree to refer me to a service technician rather than make me do the repairs. This took over a month due to slow delivery of parts and a busy schedule of the technician. He replaced all parts pertaining to this function and it still does not work right; it did not improve the situation at all. I have asked for them to replace my machine and they still think it is a repairable problem. If it started doing this due to wear I would understand, but it has NEVER worked right! So, again I wait. I have been trying to get this fixed for 3 months and will keep trying I guess. If you do decide to go ahead and buy any product made by Icon Fitness (Reebok, Nordic Track, ProForm, etc), be sure and buy the extended warranty because you will need it.
