I had a set of Hammered Antique since 1999 when this reintroduction of an old design started. The handle design goes back to the early 20th Century. (Too bad they didn't keep the original tines and spoon profiles). Just the same it's a great set to have. Unfortunately, it was discontinued in 2005 and I wasn't able to get "reasonably priced" replacements from R&B until now.

My flatware collection was getting a bit hangdog after heavy family action. My son just bought four place settings and a set of "steak knives" to help renew and upgrade the family set. We didn't have the Hammered Antique "steak knives" before. The thin serrated edge of the butter knives cut through most steak ok, and much better than other butter knives. When we had Argentinian-asado worthy cuts to make we raided the kitchen knives.

So what's the benefit of paying the premium price for these -- so called -- matching steak knives? If you like to stab a chunk of meat with your knife and gesture with it, to "make a point" (pun intended), during your dinner discourse; you might believe it is worth the price. For me, these knives are just petty bourgeois posturing.

Reed & Barton could put a real meat cutting blade on their "steak knives" for those of us who serve the grass-fed tastier cuts that aren't corn-fed tenderloin. Something a bit more lethal, to arm your dinner guests. Just the same, they are "functional" and most guests will appreciate that you went through the expense to buy "matching steak-knives."

Been looking for steak knives to match a set of hammered flatware that we bought years ago. These are exactly right. Excellent product and transaction. Thanks!

We bought these knives to match a hammered set we bought that did not have steak knives. They are really nice knives and cut well. We are very happy with them. We bought two sets and probably should have bought two more.

Only one knife had any type of labeling on it stating whether it was 18/10 or not ~ so what does that mean about the others? Not sure about this ~ what happened to "made in America" Reed & Barton ~ why is everything made in China?????

This silverware is great quality, weight, and beautiful.
I ordered the 12 place setting plus this set of steak knives.
Will definitely purchase again. Couldn't be more satisfied.
