They list some ingredients that are harmful for coral reefs:
4) 4-methylbenzylidine camphor
This product contains both oxybenzone and octinoxate. The makers of this deceptive product should be ashamed of themselves for branding a product as reef safe when it's the exact opposite.
Oxybenzone is the #1 coral killer in bad sunscreens and 'Reef Safe' sunscreen has oxybenzone as a primary ingredient.
Instead buy a suncreen which relies on titantium oxide or zinc oxide. There are brands which do not have oxybenzone which also do not have titanium oxide or zinc oxide in case you don't like those. Better yet get rash guards, skins, buffs etc and cover up. Way better than sunscreens for screen, protection from stingy things in water and they don't wash off.. A fine selection of those on this site. (They also look good.)
