4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but a layman's book, March 8, 2007

This review is from: Reef Fish Identification: Baja to Panama (Paperback)
This book, like all publications from these guys, is a fairly comprehensive field guide for marine species in the region, including some notes about behaviors and ranges of habitation. However, I continue to struggle with its non-scientific arrangement, where species are lumped together according to their morphology (i.e., "large bodies with fat lips"). It may be an easy way for the novice to locate something he/she has seen underwater, based upon physical characteristics, but it doesn't necessarily work well for the more advanced user. Nonetheless, I bought it, knowing what to expect, and it's worth the money.

Absolutely super. The Humann-De Loach fish identification series, of which I have all, are indispensible for a serious underwater videographer like myself.

This book is an excellent reference for divers and snorkelers. I use it after diving/snorkeling to easily identify the fish I saw during the dive. It has english, "native" (mostly spanish given the area) and scientific name for all the fish identified.

I highly recommend it!
