5.0 out of 5 stars Reefer Madness Rocks
I absolutely love this album. The music is totally upbeat and fun. The lyrics are a riot. Both the music and lyrics are something that will remain with you for a long time. I never get tired of listening to it and especially like the swing dance number "At the Old Five and Dime" which, I defy you to listen to and remain seated. Another favorite is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Showtime music
I love, love, love the Reefer Madness movie on Showtime. I guess I didn't look very closely at the songs on this, the original musical CD. I thought they would have the same songs, but, nope. "Listen to Jesus Jimmy" is still the best song, but others like "Loved by Mary Lane" are missing.
This is a fun CD but unless you saw and liked the original musical, it may...

Another favorite is "Listen to Jesus,Jimmy" which is totally over the top. This is an album to sit and enjoy when you are alone and can appreciate its humor and strong message. It is also an album to share with friends, when you are ready to have some fun. I saw this show in LA and now can't wait for its opening Off-Broadway in NYC. The show is a take off on the 1930s government scare flick of the same name but has gone quite a few steps further in its own unique and creative approach. This is something that has just begun to take off and you will be hearing a lot about it before long. I predict another Rocky Horror Picture Show, but with a greater edge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Soundtrack in My collection, August 24, 2005
This review is from: Reefer Madness the Musical (Audio CD)
I bought this after watching the movie on Showtime, and while I was disappointed by the lack of the Brownie song, It made up with so many others.... The Monkey Song, Lullabye, And the Listen to Jesus, Jimmy Reprise!

The Vocals by Rober Torti and Christian Campbell are top notch, love them....and I think Robert Torti sounded much better as Jack.

Beyond that, I recomend it to anyone who loved the movie....even if the vocal inflections change, and there are alternate lyrics....fun times, two thumbs up

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun show!, September 2, 2000

This review is from: Reefer Madness the Musical (Audio CD)
Saw this in LA. It's a musical that's fun even for people who don't like musicals. It's hip enough to poke fun at the inherent silliness of musical theatre ("Dead Old Man"), but earnest enough to feature characters that you really care about. I love the moment when Reefer Madam Mae (the most co-dependent musical theatre heroine since Nancy in "Oliver") finds the courage to turn on evil Reefer pusher Jack and beat him to death with a garden hoe ("You once had all the brains/Now they're just carpet stains/'Cuz there's blood upon your necktie/Your corpus is delecti"). The CD music is even better than the live show, with some of the arrangements fattened up in the studio. Bonus track "Weather Changes" is one GORGEOUS ballad. I recommend this CD highly.

"Reefer Madness, Reefer Madness!" the chorus sings out... and madness it is. I am thrilled to say that I have seen this show and can't wait to see it again. I compare it to the cleverness and quirkiness of "Little Shop of Horrors". The songs are snappy and memorable, the story is hysterical, the talent is unforgettable! My favorite song is "Listen to Jesus, Jimmy".

Angels: Listen to Jesus, Jimmy

Jesus: Just say NO to the marihuana

Angels: Listen to Jesus, Jimmy

Jesus: This comes straight from the Madonna

Angels: Listen to Jesus, Jimmy

Jesus: I'm the face on the Shroud of Turin

Angels: Listen to Jesus, Jimmy

Jesus: Do I need to test your urine?

It's rare to find lyrics such as the above in a show these days. If you want a fun CD with songs that you have not heard a million times before... BUY THIS CD NOW! (If you think that a musical about the evils of smoking pot is an abomination, you will also like this because all the reefer addicts get what they deserve!) Well... What they deserve is a break on Broadway!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reefer Madness Rules!, August 1, 2000

This is one of the best new musicals to come along in a long time. Each song is better than the next. If you missed seeing the show, at least you can listen to the music. I recommend using it as back-up music when you are cleaning the house...it's very energizing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on "Reefer", June 21, 2000

Funny, sexy, meaningful, moving and glorious. Five words rarely associated with the "demon weed". This, however, is not your ordinary reefer- it's "Reefer Madness!". What Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney have created is nothing short of genius. The lyricism is witty and sharp, the music is brilliant and balanced. What the cast delivers is mind-blowing and beautiful. This "Reefer" is so addicting it will most likely never leave your stereo!

I saw this musical several months ago in LA, and my life has never been the same. It's been a long time since I've seen a piece of theatre so witty, vibrant and delightfully stupid. The CD succesfully captures the heart of the show, and contains all of the must-have songs from the original production. The voices are great, the band is hot (and I mean really hot!), it's just great listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Musical, April 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Reefer Madness the Musical (Audio CD)
Anyone out there looking for something new and -- god help me -- FUNNY, should check out this CD. It's comedic without ever getting stupid. It's over-the-top nature is all in the service of driving home the (presumably ironic) point the MARIJUANA IS EVIL! Smart lyrics and catchy music that bears up upon repeated listenings. Lead is the sexy Christian Campbell from "Trick." Best song is "Little Mary Sunshine" in which the ingenue is seduced into smoking weed for the first time.
