5.0 out of 5 stars Most practical book!, October 19, 2009

I browsed Amazon for a number of film scoring books, and chose this one because it looked very practical and helpful -- and I was right!! If you're even thinking about a career in film music - big leagues or no - this book is a MUST. Rona covers every nook and cranny, from the spotting sessions to setting up a studio, and the different jobs (not just composer!) that are offered in film music. He's been "through the system" so to speak, and knows what he's talking about! Five stars!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favor and read this book!, September 10, 2011
This review is from: The Reel World: Scoring For Pictures-Updated And Revised Edition (Music Pro Guides) (Paperback)
This is THE book on film scoring to have in your library. I hate to say it, but this book might have to dethrone "On The Track" which has been the flagship scoring textbook for years.

In my opinion, Rona has written this with the actual fledgling composer in mind, with his small computer/MIDI set up in his bedroom. In all likelihood I'm describing you. I don't think John Williams is searching fro textbooks on film scoring.

On The Track discusses how the BIGGEST names in Hollywood score films which can be irrelevant to your situation right now. Rona's book has been a great resource for me. And I am working film composer.

I have written the music for The Grudge 3 which was produced by Spider-Man director, Sam Raimi, and that was form the series that first starred Sarah Michelle Gellar.

I have also orchestrated 27 Hollywood features including Spider-Man 3, Fantastic Four 2 and Ghost Rider. I also teach film scoring at a 4-year musi college where I am head of the composition department and feel that I need to make Rona's book a required text.

If you're serious about scoring movies visit: [...]. I teach an online crash course on how to become a working film composer. There is also an opportunity for you to win a 30-minute phone consultation with me.
