As others have commented about the SL100, mounting this takes a bit of effort. Once mounted successfully, the lights work well. It takes a couple of wheel revolutions before it starts to blink, and it continues blinking when stopped (at a stop sign, for example). The amount of light is comparable to other micro-led lights.

(I would give this product FOUR STARS - 5 due to ease of use & functionality, then subtract 1 because they are not quite as bright as many battery-powered lights. I initially gave it 3 stars, as I was waiting for a defective headlight to be replaced. I received the replacement part from the mfr. very quickly, and it now works. However, Amazon will not allow me to change the star rating in this review.)

I have used the Danish Reelight SL-120 running lights for four years, and am very satisfied with them. The lights blink whenever the bicycle is in motion, and for 2 minutes afterwards. These blinking lights make the bike more visible in the daytime and at night. They are attached to the axles of the wheels and powered by magnets mounted on the spokes. Robust design, no battery or maintenance needed. A

As others have noted, these lights don't last long, 1-2 years tops with only moderate cycling (70 miles/week). The storage capacitor gave out much sooner than that. Given this defect, the manufacturer should think about replaceable components. Or think of a way to turn them off when not in use, if that would prolong the life. I'm planning on tearing mine apart to see what has gone bad, and if it can be replaced. 50 bucks is pretty pricey for something that doesn't last. Also, if the goal is to not populate landfills with batteries, now we are populating landfills with these buggers.

I picked these up from a different vendor on a sale. They were not really hard to install, it just took a lot of trial and error, The instructions are non existent (at least in mine?). There is like 3-4 pictures and it does not really help too much.

Once you get everything in place it will be good for a while. If you have to remove the wheel, you only have to worry about the angle/up down adjustment, since it will be in the same spot.

The skewer/axle is the center of the wheel, and this is what they mount to. So the rotation is the only part that moves.

I mounted the front one first and it probably took 30 minutes, the rear 10 minutes. I will order another set for my girlfriends bike and I expect it to be about 15 minutes total.

A 90 degree/ratcheting screwdriver would take off a ton of hassle on this MAXCRAFT 60199 1/4-Inch Dual-Drive Mini Ratchet Driver. I also have a work stand which helps. My process was as follows:

1. Attach the lights to the brackets, about 90 tight, where you can still move them, but only need a turn or two to tighten. Bent bracket = front = white. The straighter of the 2 is the rear / red. Not sure what side they go on? I did left rear and right for the front. Thinking I am most likely to get hit by someone turning into me from a side street vs oncoming car or getting doored. And the rear I made towards cars. I ride in the city, and never have had any oncoming issues, but a door / or turning car is much more common.

2. Mount the light on an angle that you want/Straight ahead, tighten the axle.

3.

Great safety device for night time / dim light riding.
No batteries. The lights are always there and working.
Light weight, magnet driven. Magnets attach to spokes.
A little tricky to mount, but once mounted correctly, it just works all the time.
You don't have to think about it or turn it on or carry extra batteries with you.
Has a capacitor so it keeps blinking for a few minutes after you come to a stop.

Think of it as a super reflector for safer riding.

When I got these 10 months ago, I liked them. They provided an easy way to always have some lighting. When they work, they're great! They are a bit troublesome to install, but once they're installed properly, you don't have to think about them again.

Until... they break. The front light stopped working, and after contacting the company that makes them, they said they'd send me a replacement. That was months ago, and nothing has ever arrived. Just after I contacted them about the front headlight, the rear light stopped working too. Even if the company does replace them, I'd rather not spend all that time installing them again. Less than a year of riding in dry conditions, and they're both broken.

I won't be getting these again. Great idea, disappointing results.

Having just installed my set, I can see why shops might be reluctant to carry them. While there is nothing difficult in installing them, it's a bit fiddly, and chewed up the better part of a hour, for an experienced amateur bike mechanic. And every time your take the front wheel off, the bracket will need to be re-set, lest it point at the sky, the ground. File the "Lawyer Tabs" off your front fork ends if you can - the furnished brackets WILL work with them, but they will fit better if you file/grind them off.

I LOVE having a worry-free way of making my bike more visisble in the gloaming. And as an engineer, I çan't think of a way of making these things easier to install that would work with a wide variety of bikes. So, this is the sort of thing you'll like if you like this sort of thing....<grinning>
