Biography

Chuck Berry’s vast contribution to the music world is reflected in the plaudits he has won from many of the most well known artists who followed him. As a songwriter, guitarist and performer, he shaped rock and roll and has more than earned his place in the Top 5 of the Rolling Stone list of The Immortals. In 2004 six of his songs found their way onto the magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs… Read more in Amazon's Chuck Berry Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Compilation, April 8, 2006
This review is from: Reelin & Rockin: The Very Best of (Audio CD)
This is simply a terrific compilation of one of the most influental pioneers in rock music. Contaning 56 tracks recordings for Chess Records during 1956-1971.

Many of these songs will be well-known to fans of British rhythm`n blues groups of the 1960`s like the Rolling Stones, Pretty Things and the Kinks. Here you get the original versions, which in most cases outshine later cover-versions.

There is a lot of fun in these old songs, which show that Berry is not only a great highly original song-writer but also a fine lyricist.

I won`t bring out any particular tracks, except his 1964 song, "You Never Can Tell" which has always been a favourite of mine.

The 16 pages booklet give a good but short overview of his career, but will probably leave wanting to learn more about this extraordinary musician's life and music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reeling and Rocking: Very Best Of Chuck Berry, February 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Reelin & Rockin: The Very Best of (Audio CD)
This is a great compilation of Chuck Berry's original hits for Chess Records. Just a word of advice, 'Reeling and Rocking' is the 6:58 live version from 1972 and not the single edit as indicated. The single was 4:16.
