Product Description

One potential witness said, "Whitey wasn't the best-liked member of the reenacting community, but who would have thought he'd end up like this?"

When Prospect, Tennessee Police Chief Sam Jenkins attends the town's annual heritage festival it not only satisfies his interest in Early American history, it draws him into the investigation of another murder on "the peaceful side of the Smokies."

Local antique dealer, G. Nobel Whitehead, has been savagely killed. As former New York detective turned police chief wades through a cadre of quirky local characters to learn how the victim's shady dealings lead to his demise the questions just keep popping up.

Did Whitehead's attraction to a half-Cherokee woman trouble her fiancé enough to commit murder? Or did the victim cheat one of his customers? The only thing for certain is that someone really wanted him dead.

This review is from: Reenacting a Murder (Kindle Edition)
Somehow, even when Wayne Zurl's characters meet the stickiest of ends, his work remains fun to read, humorous and good natured.

His main character (and my favourite cop) Sam Jenkins, is at his laid-back and naughtiest best in this short and extremely easy to read novella. The plot is minimal: an antique dealer is murdered in his tent during a re-enactment of a historical district weekend. There are three suspects initially, but to start with, no motive for the murder - until Sam checks the books and follows the trail to a secret.

Highly recommended, a great read :)

More About the Author

Wayne Zurl worked for twenty years as a police officer in New York before retiring to the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. For thirteen of those years he served as a section commander superivsing investigators. Prior to his police career, Zurl served in the US Army during the Vietnam war and continued on in the Reserves. Before all that, he worked in the fledgling business of computers--when they were seven feet tall. Somewhat disenchanted with the IBM/data processing business, Zurl decided computers were nothing but a passing fad--something that would never replace humans, and he scrapped reentry into that world after returning from his stint with the Army overseas, and collected unemployment insurance until he was offered the only job somewhat compatable with his military background. In 2006 he began writing police stories. His premier novel, A NEW PROSPECT, is scheduled to debut in January 2011. He has (at this time) seven mystery novelettes being sold or about to be published as audio books and Kindle books.
