Rarely do I read one of these "type" books. It's hard to take them out in public or, if you live in a populated household, leave out on the nightstand. Itn my family, if you do either, it's a guarantee of plenty of teasing. To order a book like this, it has to have a trusted author. I just finished the authors'other traditional books and was impressed-- so I took the risk and ordered this ONE. It was so excellently written I returned and ordered the other two in the series. This book is a fascinating science fiction story of another world. Then the characters are well developed (ahem...), with distinct personalities, even believeable. The secret message in this book is a typical R&J romance from two opposing sides. To learn aabout each side, on this different planet, is fascinating. Yes, the sensuality is as promised. Without that component, this would still be a lovely romance and an excellent read. Just keep it hidden.....

4.0 out of 5 stars The Shareem are erotic and deeply satisfying!, September 8, 2008
This review is from: Rees: Tales of the Shareem (Paperback)
In a future society dominated by women, The Shareem are designed for sexual fulfillment. These enhanced males specialize in bringing women to ecstasy and have been programmed to perform at one of three levels. Level one offers pure sensual pleasure. Level two provides games and wicked fun. Level three is the ultimate barbarian. Tall, muscular, and beautiful, The Shareem are designed to be pleasing to the eyes as well as the body.

Lady Talan d'Urvey is seeking enlightenment. Adopted into high society she is ready to take a vow of celibacy. But after discovering the diary of a woman who spent one blissful week with a Shareem, Talan sets out to experience for herself what pleasure of the flesh feels like. When her research leads her to Rees, she finds herself drawn to him immediately. She knows right away she wants him for her experiment.

Rees is not your standard issue Shareem. Born of a unique experiment, he is all three levels in one. Deemed unstable and dangerous, his programmers abandoned the experiment and feared Rees' unpredictable nature. Now that he is free, Rees has managed to hide in plain sight - Though Rees himself isn't quite sure what he is capable of should he ever lose control.

Allyson James has created a futuristic series that will have readers wishing for a time machine! Rees and Talan set the pages ablaze as one of the most perfectly matched pairs this reader has come across. This first book of the series does not disappoint. Not only will readers find the Shareem deeply satisfying, these hot men will leave them panting for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise!, January 17, 2011
I found this series quite by accident on my new kindle. I held my breath and squirmed through every book in this series.I've loved each character Allyson James has introduced, and have become vested in their individual pursuit of happiness and fulfillment. The shareem's erotic sexual encounters have been added to my list of guilty pleasures! I can't think of a better way to enjoy "me" time then to be curled up in my pjs with an Allyson James novel! I can hardly wait for the newest book in this series!!!

I've always been curious about these books, as I really like James 'Shifters Unbound' series (written as Jennifer Ashley). The cost of these books kept me from trying them, so when this one went free, I snapped it up.

It was pretty good. It was obviously an early work of the author, and there really wasn't enough storyline to go along with the sex scenes. Still, it was an enjoyable enough for a freebie; and I understand that the other books in the series get somewhat better. These are very old works, and it shows. They are too expensive for what they are, there's not much to them, and the authors writing is much better now.

Overall, I'd recommend skipping these and reading her Stormwalker series; or the Shifters Unbound and Highland Pleasures series she writes as Jennifer Ashley. These are a much better representation of the work of this author, especially The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Berkley Sensation) .

4.0 out of 5 stars Romance and sci fi, November 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rees: Tales of the Shareem (Paperback)
I love romance and sci fi, so I thought I would give this book a go. It was well written, had great characters and a great story. I love the sci fi setting, it was exciting and evocative and really well done. All the characters were unique and engaging and the romance was sweet and well executed. I love the fast pace of the book too. Wasn't too keen on some of the sexual aspects, but I guess this is part of the territory with this genre and comes down to personal taste. Overall, I give it a 4 as the story and characters were really good and the romance aspect was fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read it in one sitting, it's a Kindle Keeper, January 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
**My Review Contains Spoilers**
I picked this book up as a freebie and ended up reading it in one sitting. I will definitely be buying more of this authors work, free or not, and, in particular, this series. It is very well written, there are lots of interesting details about the planet and its different aspects as well as the characters personalities and their actions, which seemed to be consistent with one another. There were a few things that gave me pause and pulled me out of the story: I truly did not understand the medical condition Rees had. Something was said about adrenaline dumping when he got out of control, but the thing that seemed to make it worse was also, ultimately, the cure. Ok, the other quibble: this was set up as a HEA monogamous M/F love story. Why then did our Hero, who kept saying "Mine!" and variations of "Hands Off!" to his friend, invite him to the party? This is probably nit picky here, because, after all, this is the erotica genre, and those of us who read it know that there is quite a bit of fantasy, but I think we all know that an older virgin, with a very much intact barrier, cannot take on a 12" and saddle up for the rodeo as many times as she did (was it 5? I lost count, it was mind boggling though). The author's out was that Shareem can make unpleasurable things seem pleasureable, but still! At any rate, I did enjoy this book and it's a Kindle Keeper for me because it's actually a very sweet and detailed love story that just happens to have some seriously scorching hot sex in it. I liked it, I hope you do, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable and unique, January 1, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A <>Pages of Desire</a> review

I can honestly say that after this book I am a fan of Allyson James, and without any doubt I will be reading more from this series. I downloaded this from Amazon for free but after reading it and being pleasantly surprised I don't think I would mind paying for the others.

I'll start of with what I did like...which was most of the story actually. The world James created was wonderful and thought out, and even had history. The writing was clearly the work of someone who knows the art and it didn't feel like some cheap fan-fic you read when no one is around. I loved the idea of the Shareem and the amount of detail that went into them. They are not just men created for sex, they are men who very good at what they do and they even have different levels for it. The main character, Talan, was delightful and sweet, and I enjoyed reading about her journey to understand her body and desires. She's naive but not embarrassingly so. Then of course there is Rees, and oh how I love him. He's sexy, smart and even capable of humor. Talk about melt worthy...of course there is the matter of his size, which of course was a little much for me. 12 inches...that got a laugh and a cringe out of me at the same time. I also like Rio and I'll probably read through the second book just so I can get to the book that focuses on him. The sex was great of course and it varied throughout, it was hot when it needed to be and soft when necessary. I think what I liked the most about this is that there was an actual story behind it, and the character development was unique.

Now for the things I didn't like. Well it's really one thing and that was the word 'cream'. It's used a lot. At some points it was fine but at others I found it a little icky or annoying. It wasn't enough to throw off the story or mood but it's used enough that you make a mental note of it.

Overall a very enjoyable read. It does have some M/F/M, and some BDSM (though I didn't find it to be extreme).

5.0 out of 5 stars Deff a Keeper, December 9, 2011

This review is from: Rees: Tales of the Shareem (Paperback)
I can't believe how much I loved this book. I 'bought' it for free for a kindle app on my computer. I loved the plot and finished it in less than a day. My only issue now is that I wish it had been longer! Now hopefully I get some money for Christmas so I can buy the rest of the books in this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars A sexy sci-fi romance that's just down right terrific!, December 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Based on a world not our own, this story is quite original and enthralling. Rees is a Shareem, a genetically altered male pleasure slave. There are three levels of Shareem, but Rees is the only one created with all three of them.

Lady Talan has never been with a man before, but is encouraged to retain a Shareem to learn all he has to teach her about pleasure. Her time with Rees passes all too quickly, and it is time for him to return to his home. What neither of them had counted on was falling in love.

I loved this book! The characters and storyline draw you in. Romantic, sexy, and a lot of fun, I didn't want it to end! I cannot wait to read the rest of the Shareem novels.(Just be advised, this book isn't for young adult readers.) Very highly recommended!
:o)
