Because my 2011 Escape Limited has no spare tire and I'm retiring to rural Alaska in a couple of months I needed to be able to carry at least one spare tire and I didn't feel the roof was an option because of the increased drag. In this case the Reese Towpower was just the ticket and works fine mounted in my rear trailer hitch. Obviously, it does interfere with access to the rear cargo section of the vehicle via the back hatch but this is a small price to pay for having a spare tire readily available especially as I will be driving it on the Alaska Highway. I intend to continue to use the unit as is once I'm living in rural Alaska as the roads up there aren't always the best!

Rated only 100 lbs. Really? It can certainly carry more than that.
Warning label say not to drill, weld or modify. Really? Why didn't you build it with a several holes so I didn't have to drill a 5/8" hole in this poorly designed carrier.
Won't carry a dually tire. Really? It is advertised for carrying Motorhome tires. What do you think they use? Load range C tires?
Offset is horrible. No provision for a Dually tire. I would need 4 more inches of clearance to make this work.

If you buy this you will kick yourself as an welder can make you one that is better for a whole lot less money.

Now, excuse me, while I kick myself all the way to my welder friends house and fork out another couple hundred to make this POS work.

Was looking for a way to remount the spare tire, so as I would not have to crawl under the car to get the spare out. Would be next to impossible on a rainy or wet grounds.I found this item, and it was exactly what I had in mind. Extremly easy to insert the mounting bolts, and mount the tire. I did also order a tire cover to dress it up. Am very satisfied with the Reese Mount and could not have expected more. I did have to remount the license plate on the van to make it visible though. 5 star item for sure. Definatly Recommended. Reese 6715 Front Mount Spare Tire Carrier.

With my extended cab-over camper, this makes my spare readily accessible. Initially concerned that my spare might interfere with air flow to the radiator, but after installation and use found no problem at all. Front receiver's primary purpose is for mounting my winch.

Bought this item thinking that the mountain plate would be at right up and down but it isn't. Has an angle to it. Still made the item work for my project.
