Great Controller for a great price!,

I recently changed tow-vehicles for my 30-foot travel trailer. I installed this brake controller on the new vehicle, because I left my old brake controller with the old vehicle when I turned it in. I was expecting a $100 for the controller, and a $100 install from my service center. However I found this, and love the fact that it displays voltage to the trailer brakes. My old controller was just a dial, and you had to adjust every time you hitched up. With this one I know now that I really want to be at about 6 volts when fully applied.
I also took advantage of a deal amazon.com was offering at the time with a discount for signing up for their credit card. I wound up with a brake controller for somewhere in the neigborhood of $20, and easily installed it myself (I'll post pictures shortly) when I was expecting it to cost $200 installed, and I got a much better brake controller than what I left on my old tow-vehicle (now I'm glad I left that one on the old truck! :) )

This controller works well for the price. After determining the settings (both loaded and unloaded) for the various trailers I tow, setting the controller for each trailer is a snap. The only thing that would make it better was if it had memory settings so I wouldn't have to keep my cheat sheet in the truck.

I ordered this unit to install on my Chrysler Aspen towing a 25' travel trailer. This unit was easy to install and calibrate. Brake control is smooth and works very well.

This was a very easy install and the instructions were great. I really like the digital display it makes it very easy to switch between trailers without having to reset up all the controls. I would recommend this to anyone.

I purchased this unit and so far, after only a few weeks of use, am very happy with the item. It works just like advertised and there's a decent installation instruction for the unit as well. The unit was received a day earlier than originally listed which worked out well for me. I purchased this item on the recommendation of a friend. Anyone looking for a straightforward brake controller should consider this item.

great product, but wireing diagram supplied with unit didn't match the color code of the wireing harness supplied with my 2010 ford explorer sport trac I had to use the wireing diagram supplied with my truck

I installed this into my 2009 Chevy Traverse with the towing package so all I had to do was connect the controller's wires to the factory-supplied harness. It took about 30 minutes. NOTE: Do not follow the color codes for GM that are included with the controller. Call the dealer or look on the web for the correct wiring colors for the factory harness. Installation looks sharp with the ball mount - much better than the traditional metal bracket.

Used in commercial vehicle for over a year no failures. Does require some adjusting for weight of trailer. Does the job.

Its simple and easy to install and setup. It doesn't provide propotional breaking but for a simple brake controller it is the easiest to install (installs in any position) and easiest to use that myself and my buddies have found. It just requires power, ground, and one wire to break pedal switch, as well as a power output to your trailer brakes. If your rig is prewired - all you need is the adapter plug for your make and model of vehicle and you simply plug it in, mount it in place and your done. My particular vehicle was not prewired but installing and running the wiring, plugs and a circuit breaker (local auto parts store) and testing just took a couple of hours.
After installation, you start your rig and trailer rolling and set the breaking level with the little thumb wheel (the display shows the output voltage to the trailer brakes) to just before the brakes on your trailer lock up and then back off slightly. Your then set and ready to go! We liked best- 1.That you can install it any position 2. It performs a continuous self check and if everything is working properly is shows a little "C" on the screen (for connected and working properly) When breaking it shows the breaking voltage applied to the trailer brakes. If your not connected properly to the trailer it just shows a blank screen with a decimal point. 3. It was easy to install, setup and use and will handle up to 3 axles and has worked flawlessly over the last several thousand miles of trailer driving. I have tested it on the plains, rolling hills and mountains and its really nice to find a product that I can highly recommend. For the money I would have to give it a best value rating. The next step up would be a controller with proportional breaking control which gets up into the high dollar units, starting around $200 -Scott |
