It isn't just something to read to understand the tools provided to you from VS2010, it's a book about patterns and practices for power programming. With this book you will look at an assortment of techniques in great detail. You will study how these patterns can be used to change the way your software is designed.

Just looking at all the techniques covered to refactor covers so many different areas.

Anyhow, I was really impressed! I didn't expect this at all:
a way to learn the tool in the context of design patterns.

It is not a book to learn more about the clever use of Visual Studio 2010, or a tutorial on languages or technologies that it uses (c #, ASP.NET, etc. ), and wanting to be picky even a manual on the renowned "design patterns" for developing on the platform.NET.
It is rather a collection of reasoned advice and recommendations to improve our code and, above all, of the pre-existing code. And this with the support of the best design patterns.

The code is "refactorized" in order to improve its readability, maintainability, its navigability and its correctness according to good programming rules.
Each of the 11 chapters in the book tackles a separate topic, and for this reason, I would say that, apart from the first introductory chapter (to read necessarily first), the remaining chapters can be read in accordance with the needs and interests.
Each covers about thirty pages, and can be read entirely in an evening with at least a couple of hours.

The code presented is not much (Packt, how come you haven't made available on the site?), and there are several pages pure reading.
From the website of Packt Publishing is made available the entire chapter 6 ("Improving Class Quality") of 39 pages.
I recommend to download it, so there is an idea of how it is done and if this book will do.

Unfortunately the code examples is indented in a lousy way, and it makes a lot of effort to read it with a glance. This flaw is not additabile to the author, but rather the choice to write it with a very large font, poor readability (sans serif), and with plenty of space around.
Also the layout of books from Packt is, in my view, one of the worst between others IT books publishers.
Would a radical renewal, paying more attention to visual appearance, and not just the content.

Apart from this small (but not much) shortcomings the book is worth a read, and I would say even several "readings".
The advice offered by the author are often found in other texts, and provides that "quid" that makes a .NET programme better than many others.
