5.0 out of 5 stars Reference Manual for Magnetic Resonance Safety, July 26, 2009
This review is from: The Reference Manual for Magnetic Resonance Safety, Implants, and Devices: 2009 Edition (Paperback)
Having been an MRI technologist for over 23 years, MRI educator, and author or co-author of several MRI books and peer-reviewed papers, I have found this book an indispensable reference with regard to patient care and safety. It has been, and continues to be a tremendous asset to MRI physicians and technologists. It comprehensively covers all areas of MR safety. I highly recommend for any and all MR professionals.

I am perplexed by the other review as it refers to only 5 pages out of over 600. Furthermore, the data in that particular section is backed up by scientific studies/articles. It would appear the person posting the review has more of an issue with a particular company than the content of this well-recognized and often cited work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not fair balanced information, July 20, 2009

The Reference Manual for Magnetic Resonance Safety, Implants, and Devices: 2009 Edition

I received this book for free at the 2009 ARRS conference. It was provided by Bracco (a contrast agent company) for those attending a lecture series sponsored by Bracco. The writing of this book was sponsored by Bracco. In both the book and the lecture series, there was information clearly promoting Bracco products over other companies products.
The information in the manual is misleading because not enough information is provided about competing products for the reader to make accurate decisions about which products to select. MultiHance, a Bracco product, is the only contrast agent mentioned by name in the book, for example. MultiHance is also the only contrast agent to have its own chapter in the book. The positions of the FDA, the ACR, and the EMEA on contrast agent safety are not clearly juxtaposed. The differences in FDA approved indications vs. European approved indications are not explained for the different contrast agents.
In summary, this manual is not sufficient for providing even the most basic understanding of contrast agent safety in the U.S. or Europe.
I am not qualified to judge the coverage of medical devices in this book, but ask future readers to beware of any product favoritism.
