Sugar Pie has a deep, expressive voice, here, late in her career, it's husky, sounds like a big woman. She's not, so maybe she's the biggest little woman in the blues. Beautiful sax-like tone, with exciting back-up singers and inspired work from the band. She can tear apart a song, ripping your heart out while she's at it. Refined Sugar

sugar pie desanto is umpelya balinton, born before world war 2 in brooklyn ny but grew up in the bay area in california. filipino dad and african american mom. she has opened up for james brown and other leading bluesmen. they dubbed her lady james brown...this cd has funk, blues ballads and soul music..

A threat for those of us who grew up in West Oakland and had the opportunity to share with our local artists that are beginning to be recognized far beyond their prime.

Infectious rocking Sugar Pie original opener "Matter Of Time" is cooker then on to sublime "Blues Hall Of Fame", it is clear Sugar Pie is going to deliver a tour-de-force set unlike anything else around today and magnificent collection is a must have for anyone who loves real music! Sugar Pie Desanto has been around for decades and hit a new peak all these years later...Sugar Pie original blues rocker "Somebody Scream" is off the track and a biting great vocal with a loose great arrangement complete with hot piano and harmonica! Throughout background singers sizzle this is real music with no programming...what a relief to hear real live musicians truly inspired playing with a music legend who needs her just due! "Life Goes On" a raw illuminating vocal goes deep inside the great lyrics which are provided and great to follow throughout this musical treasure filled with magnificent performances..."Nobody's Home" is a blues classic while yearning for love make "How Many Times" another soul-deep Sugar Pie original and a must listen! This lady is a great composer who has really come into her own and hit a new peak...hopefully this great work will be recognized & time for the music industry to get back to real music & this would be a terrific place to start!!! The Blues Hall Of Fame or The Rhythm & Blues Foundation would be smart to get behind this overlooked great as this is the real thing and one of the all time greatest...no filler here just get this tremendous collection for a satisfying musical experience with the real thing!!! "Git Back" is a hot original with great keyboards, sax, funky bass line and classic horns and sounds like a hit..."I Need Help" is another low down blues original and the ultimate while "I Need To Live Again" is a blues masterpiece. Opening with a great rocker original, Sugar Pie closes this masterful set with a another great rocking original...thank you Sugar Pie and all of your incredibly talented musicans for the greatest musical treat in years and you belong in The Blues Hall Of Fame!!!!
