5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to this great underground band
I must admit, this record is simply great!!!!!!!!. When I first bought, I thought that I made a big mistake, but after an hour of listening it all, it really impressed me how innovative has been Paradise Lost. It's a sahame that many people don't even appreciate their musicianship, mainly due to their lyrics. But believe me, after hering tracks like "Say Just...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing greatest hits package
If you want PL's best material, you're better off with One Second and Draconian Times, or if you have a different favorite album, go with that. It may cost more that way, but you won't regret spending a little bit more. Nick Holmes' booming voice and the rich instrumentals feel like they could fill God's own arena and hence the studio tracks sound muffled. Shoestring...

But believe me, after hering tracks like "Say Just Words", "Hallowed Land" and "Gothic", you realized their integrity and professional commitment for never give up experimenting with new sounds and textures. This record is really diverse: You can find experimentation with crappy death metal guitars, doom & death metal vocals, standard thrash metal riffing, industrial textures, female vocals for contrasting the harsh sounds, and even a little pop/rock approach is here!!!!!!!!!... Oh! and the guitar solos are great. So, if you want to start buying Paradise Lost's music this is a good start, but if you already got all their catalogue, it doesn't matter, because they included some live tracks, althought they're somewhat bad produced, they really complemented well this incredible best of.

Nick Holmes' booming voice and the rich instrumentals feel like they could fill God's own arena and hence the studio tracks sound muffled. Shoestring production does not help matters. All this would add to the charm, much as it does for early Velvet Underground albums, but a greatest hits collection deserves better.

That said, Paradise Lost recordings can be impossible to find in the States and I could kick myself for not buying every one of them when I had the chance. If Reflections is the only disk of theirs that you can find, by all means, buy it. But if you can purchase the original albums instead, it's money better spent. If you already have their other work, pass.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Of could be better..., October 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Reflection (Audio CD)
The Reflection-album, a best of from Paradise Lost, have collected the best tracks from their 10 first years. But in my opinion I'm a bit dissapointed, that really good tracks like "Dissapear", "Swallowed Seasons" and "Lydia" aren't there...BUT anyhow all the hits are included! This record should be in every PL-fans reach....
