Album of the Year,

This review is from: Reflection of Something (Audio CD)
This album is a must-buy for anyone who enjoys solid, grassroots/bluesy music whose lyrics will leave you challenged but encouraged at the same time. There is not a single weak song on the entire album! Highlights include Isaiah 6, a powerful worship song, and My Jesus, a song that challenges us to serve the TRUE Jesus, not one we have constructed in our own minds. Do not miss the opportunity to buy this incredible CD!

Lyrics that are honest and though-provoking.,

Reflections of Something is just that...songs that take a look at many aspects of life...struggles with self-worth and finding a place in this world, trying to comprehend mercy and grace, realization that God is always there, even when we turn away.
Two songs on this CD really hit home with me. "Unchanging One" which talks about God's faithfulness even when we stumble and fall, sometimes in major ways. The second song is "My Jesus". This song portrays who Jesus really is, not the one frequently passed off as the original in today's Christian culture. Hard-hitting in a gentle way, it's a wakeup call to those who claim to be followers of the Jesus Way. But even though "My Jesus" is listed as the final song on the CD, don't turn it off just yet. There's a surprise at the very end, one that isn't listed in the song list. A remake of the old hymn "It Is Well" is a gem in hiding. This isn't the slow as molasses hymn I grew up with. It's much, much better. Same words, same message, but in a more modern, richer package.

Jaw-dropping God-given talent; Todd's best. His gravelly voice & inspired lyrics separate marrow from bone and rattle your conscience. This is the album to give to your non-Christian friends as an outreach. Buy two CD's because you'll wear the first one out.

I was so impressed when I played this CD. Todd's passion and conviction come through each and every song. The rough rock/blues edge sets it apart as something unique in todays Christian music market. I am hard pressed to list a favorite song since all of them are so good but I can relate to Something Beautiful. This song reminds us that in our ugliness God loves us and sees something beautiful.
Each song has a message that challenges you to think- about life, God, our relationship to Him, and how we view Him and how He views us. This is one to add to your collection!

WOW,

I really enjoy Christian artists. My only complaint has been that most of the Christian music out there does not challenge the listener. The lyrics are nice and positive but never speaks to any real issues that we face in our faith. What Todd Agnew has done here, at least for me, is not only provide an excellent rock album with the kind of thought provoking lyrics that get you really thinking about, not only our faith and the sacrifice that was made for us, but also how we've presented ourselves to the world. I saw some much of myself and my church in the song "My Jesus" that I wanted to cry.

Musically and Lyrically Deep,

Todd's first album had several "radio friendly" and not much else. This album however is much deeper both musically and lyrically. There are only a few songs that I think are "radio friendly" however I can honestly say that I enjoyed every song. There just are no misses on this album.
Todd's voice (as usual) is stunning. He has really grown musically. The musical layers are a huge leap forward from his first album. Lyrically, he is very convicting. This man does NOT sing about a Sunday School Jesus. Todd comes through with an authenticity that is refreshing. Great album! No complaints here!

I am a true fan of Contemporary Christian / Christian Rock music. I'm from Memphis myself, so I've seen Todd a few times at Highpoint Church. I can truely say that I am totally impressed with this album. Much better than his debut.
Very rarely does an album touch me from start to finish like this one has. All songs are fantastic. His personal conviction on My Jesus is awesome. All songs are great and musically diverse. The hidden track of his version of It Is Well is worth the price of the CD alone. Great stuff.

This album has it all. Track 12,(MY JESUS),is one of the most powerful and truthful christian songs I have ever heard,it moved me. There is not even close to one bad song on this album. Buy as many as you can afford and give them to people that doesn't know about this JESUS Tod sing's about, you never know,it could change someone's life. GOD BLESS YOU TOD AGNEW.

Good album; Good Message,
This review is from: Reflection of Something (Audio CD)
Todd Agnew's second album REFLECTION OF SOMETHING is a versatile collection of edgy rock songs (similar to Creed or Bo Bice) and softer acoustic songs.
Todd Agnew wrote all the songs on the album. All of the tracks deal with various aspects of the Christian life--one's relationship with God. Some songs deal with the Christian's ongoing struggle with sin and rebellion, other songs are remembering Christ's sacrifice, and some songs are pure worship. Many of the songs ask the listener to think and reflect...songs such as "Mercy In Me" and "My Jesus." Highlights on the album (for me) include "Blood On My Hands" which is about a person making the realization that Jesus died for his/her sins. ("Each drop that was spilled, my debt fulfilled/ His blood is on my hands/ How can I say thanks for this") The chorus is taken from the familiar hymn "Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross." "Isaiah 6" is based on the NIV text of Isaiah 6. The text has always been one of my favorites, and Todd Agnew brings it to life with this incredible song. "My Jesus" is a very thought-provoking song asking listeners to examine if "their" Jesus--the pretty blue-eyed, brown curly-haired man in their paintings hanging on their walls--is the Jesus of the Bible. It's a great song. Overall, I enjoyed the album.

This is a blues/rock type album which is similar to Third Day. I liked it because most of it is based on Scripture. Its focus is on God --what he has done for us, His glory and what it means for us. "Something Beautiful"--reminds us that God sees who we are in Christ-- as something beautiful--which is a reflection of God. "New Name"--reminds me of Ephesians chapter two--that we were born dead in our sins, but he made us alive in him. "Blood on my hands" uses the old hymn "Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross"--I love the way Todd uses it in this song. "Unchanging One"-is based on the fact that he knows and loves us intimately. "Isaiah 6" is Isaiah's vision of the glory and the holiness of God. "Mercy in Me"--makes us think about what God's mercy means toward us and through us. "The Wonder of it All"--focuses on the glory and wonder of all that God has made. "In the Middle of Me"--is a message of our need of having more of God and less of ourselves in our lives. "Always there"--shows that God is always there even when we are unfaithful. "Where were You"--is based on God's answer to Job and its application to us. "Fulness Found"--is a reflection of what Ecclesiastes teaches on the emptiness of life without God and the fulness there is in Him. "My Jesus"--focuses on the real Jesus and the real message of the cross and the challenge to be like him. There is a bonus song--"It is Well with my Soul".
I enjoyed the CD because of its focus on the glory of God. I gave it four stars because I do not think it is quite as good as Third Day's two "Offering" CDs. |
