A sensuous trip to ancient Egypt,
By A Customer
This review is from: Reflections in the Nile (Paperback)
Well, I'm certainly gald I finally ordered this book! I haven't been able to find it in any bookstore, but I've had my eye on it for awhile. It was definitely worth it. This is a sensuously written love story, and a very interesting account of ancient Egypt and the historical events surrounding the Exodus. Ms. Frank puts an interesting spin on things, altering some of the time-honored perceptions we have about this event. Granted, I don't know all that much about ancient Egypt, so perhaps my perception would have been different if I was more knowledgable. I know that any novel about the Civil War has been absolutely ruined for me because I know a little too much about it...damn my college degree!...but I digress.Reflections in the Nile is a very good read - I finished it within two days. The author really knows how to build suspense and keep the reader guessing, and her descriptions are very lifelike. They almost make you feel a part of the scene. The love story is also handled well, with the romantic tension never ebbing for a moment. And that scene with the honey...well, I wouldn't mind having someone like Cheftu around after that! Although not nearly as emotionally stirring as Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, this is definitely a good alternative while you're waiting for The Fiery Cross. Now I have to go order the second book, Shadows on the Aegean...

I loved this book!,

I was introduced to the time travel genre through the books of Diana Gabaldon. I didn't think anything could top that series. This was an exciting novel. I really couldn't put it down. There were so many devices that lifted this book to another level. The main character is not only transported to another time, she arrives in another body. She also has to worry about what an decadent Egyptian priestess is doing in her stead. I loved the use of the concept of "The Other", the voice that helped the main character Chloe assimilate into Egyptian life. I didn't expect to like this book, but it really won me over. I can't wait to read the next installment!

I tried to put this book down--and FAILED!!!
I read lots of books. Only one other has gripped me so. I was so captivated by this intriguing novel, I found myself saying, "Just a few more pages," literally for hours.
This first novel reads like one from a veteran. It's delightfully readable--even for someone who HAD no interest in time travel.
Suzanne is a lovely person, as charming as her main character, and a gentle, disarming soul. She's made of the stuff that will sustain her through many novels--so much more the blessing for us.

AWESOME BOOK!,

This book (and the sequels) is very good. The author must have done a lot of research in Ancient Egyptology! I love this book because it tells me a lot about Ancient Egypt and....other adult themes.... the author creates a very realistic image and writes so one simply CANNOT put the book down! This book would probably be rated 'R', and I don't think it is appropriate for young people 15 and under, even though I LOVED it.

Really opened my eyes!,

This review is from: Reflections in the Nile (Hardcover)
I had read other "flung back in time" novels and, while I loved the Gabaldon series, figured with this one I would be just reading fluff. Boy, was I wrong. This book really made the Exodus vivid to me and made the Bible come alive. Getting vicious satisfaction out of crunching on the locusts, dealing with the Nile as blood, and the staffs turning into snakes! I was enthralled right from the start, and bought them for my mother, who loved it as well. I would recommend to anyone.

Didn't expect much - but I was spellbound!,

I picked up this book in a used book store and scanned the first page to see if I'd like it. The first line gushed over the "lapis sky" and "golden sands" so my expectations of its literary quality ranked at "trite". Still I love stories about ancient Egypt, so I gave it a try - and it blew me away! Reflections is a bona fide page turner. The world of Egypt came alive. I was impressed by how the author could make it so real, both in recounting history and in describing, in technicolor detail, the sensory experience. Also, Chloe's modern take on her new (very old) surroundings was fascinating and often funny (Ptah figurines as "Chia gods"). The author's mastery of the history was apparent to me. I now have a deeper understanding of the plagues and the exodus, and the impact they had on Egypt. I loved the idea that it happened in Hatshepsut's reign - its brilliant. The romance subplot was rather fomulaic, but definitely the best I've read. First, once you accept that a person could be flung back in time into someone else's body with no clue about the body's previous occupant, Chloe's little deception\ desire dance with Cheftu isn't that contrived. Second, unlike other romance stories, in this the lovers reveal their secrets closer to the middle than the end, so instead of cutting the story off with a fairy tale "happily ever after", the story continues to show how they struggle to come to terms with who each other is, and face their destiny together. Last but not least, the erotic scenes were absolutely toe-curling (this lady knows what she's writing about)! My only complaint is with the vague ending, but with all its merits, Reflections is still high up on my list of favorite novels.

READ THIS BOOK!!!!! I read a lot of books. I tried to put this one down---and failed!!! I literally said, "Just a few more pages," for hours. It's delightfully readable--even for someone who HAD no interest in time travel. This "first" novel reads as compellingly as one from a seasoned author. It's exciting, adventurous, and mysterious. It will awaken your imagination to history, and it is full of funny moments that will create great giggles. Interesting combination, huh? Suzanne is a delightful writer and lady. She's as charming and disarming as her main character, and she seems unstruck by the marketability of her gift for telling a story. Such a genuine and well-grounded artist is a treasure. She's made of the stuff that will sustain her for many novels to come--so much more the blessing for us. Renee Prindle-Jones, host of Books in Review, CC Television, Fort Worth, Texas

From time travel to one of the best books I have ever read,

This book went from just another time travel book, to one of the best historical Egypt books I have ever read. The descriptions of both new and ancient Egypt are vivid and easy to picture. I loved the characters and how they changed through the course of the book. Never has history and the Bible been more exciting and interesting! I am looking forward to this author's next book. This book left me almost breathless with anticipation.

Best time-travel I ever read,
By A Customer
This review is from: Reflections in the Nile (Hardcover)
Just finished this book and I absolutely loved it. I don't usually like time travels because you have 2 pages of time travel and the rest just historical romance. However, in this one the author takes her character back to ancient Egypt and has her become an acutal person of that time period. There is also another character who travels back to that time period and of course they meet. This author really explores her time period which I really liked. The only thing that is driving me crazy is at the end she left me hanging and I can't wait for the next one, Great book.
