More About the Author

First, let me share the reason why I have published my poetry the way I have. Many poets will publish several short themed books that contain a few of their poems. I decided a long time ago that I wanted to share my poems with as many people as I could. That being said, I continue to publish my compilations first.

The Reflections of an Old Soul series has been my way of sharing my thoughts and poetry with the world. They contain some of my best works and also those that prove my English teachers were justly fair. They told me my work was unfinished and poorly written.

How did these volumes come to be? I started writing poetry back in the sixth grade and have never stopped. My classmates will tell you I was, for the most part, a quiet, naïve, boy who received more handshakes than kisses from the girls during "spin the bottle". I was slow to blossom and have never really gotten up to speed. I still drive slightly under the speed limit on most things. I have always been a hopeless romantic and an old soul, and I have spent much more time reliving my past than enjoying my present. My poetry reflects those times I have spent awake in bed at 3 a.m. trying to figure out what it is all about. I have tossed and turned many more sleepless hours trying to forgive and be forgiven and reach inside of myself to discover and learn.

As I began to write I would collect my work in notebooks, on napkins or whatever was at hand when the inspiration hit me. Many times I would wake up in the middle of the night and the words had already formed in my head. I simply wrote them down without a second thought as to their context. Over the years I have shared my master copies with countless people, and the notebooks have disappeared for weeks and months at a time. But, they have always returned to me.

In the late 1980's I was dating a young woman who took it upon herself to literally type my poetry from every hand-written source I could find. Remember that computers were not common items back then, and she used a typewriter to complete her gift to me. It took her countless hours to preserve my work. I owe her a debt of gratitude I shall never be able to repay.

Throughout the years since then I have continued to share these typed copies with many people, and again, they have always returned to me.

In 2006 I decided that the safe return of my poetry was a good omen and a hint from Above to finally publish. I shared this intention with my dear friend and benefactor Mary Smith who has since helped me in the publication of all three of my volumes. I find myself humbled in gratitude once again.

My passion for writing and poetry has been a part of my life since my early years and I am self-proclaimed old soul who enjoys delving into the deeper side of who we are as people and spiritual beings.

My poetry comes straight from the heart. I have endeavored to keep the wording simple. I want my readers to understand my thoughts and not get caught up the words or find the need to have a dictionary close at hand. Many times the poem is already formed in my head and my hand simply obliges my mind. I read my own poems sometimes and wonder what I was thinking. They do not always reflect actual events or people in my life. Sometimes, they just are.
