3.0 out of 5 stars As advertised
The book was exactly how advertised, new. I would've given five stars but I paid to have the book shipped within a couple days and it took almost 2 weeks. It wasn't acceptable to me. So, I'm giving three stars which I think is generous.

I read this book when it first came out, and always thought of it as a classic. If you are at all interested in practicing Reflexology professionally, or are simply interested in the history of alternative medicine, then you should buy this book. Unlike many origin stories and much lore passed around by alternative practitioners as "history," this book represents solid research by someone who has looked for the truth. It's properly footnoted and has a bibliography, index, and glossary-great for those of us who like such things. The average reader need not fear though. This book is not written in dense academic language; it is very accessible, almost conversational in tone, as if one is listening to a teacher in class, and touches on points that a practitioner would be interested in. The rationale, philosophy, and wholistic view expressed in this book is what elevates it beyond a mere history and gives it five stars. Key figures like Fitzgerald, Riley, and Ingham are covered, with their philosophy and technique. Find out how Reflexology really started!

I've been practicing and reading as a Reflexologist for over 18 years and consider this the one excellent text history of Reflexology. It's a thoroughly documented reference book for anyone's needs.
