From School Library Journal
Gr 5-8-This compact book skims over the party's history, emphasizing the roles played by its most prominent leaders, including Ross Perot, Pat Buchanan, and Jesse Ventura. Andryszewski provides limited biographical information about the men, supplemented by excerpts from their autobiographies, and discusses why Perot formed the party and describes Buchanan's journey as a presidential candidate. She also explains how the Reform Party influenced the 1992, 1994, and 1996 elections and describes Perot's 1993 campaign against the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The author is objective about her topic, including material about the party's strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of its leaders. Full-color and black-and-white photos largely depict people mentioned in the text. Although this book is readable and accurate, its brevity precludes either comprehensive background or strong analysis, and coverage ends before the party's 2000 presidential nominating convention. Most libraries would be better served by titles that offer a broader perspective on third-party movements.-Mary Mueller, Rolla Junior High School, MO
