5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect soundtrack for this coming summer...
If you are strictly a blues-lover, and want another blues record from him like the last four, you will be disappointed. The two-star review is ridiculous.
Nick is really growing here, trying new stuff (for him), and it is fantastic. The energy is overwhelming - he is teetering between The Sonics and Little Richard rave-ups with the added bonus of butt-kickin...

2.0 out of 5 stars I Expected Better
After his excellent 4 previous cds Curran does a try at 50s rock. Its like The Stray Cats and Little Richard went to the studio after a long speed binge. There is some smokin guitar but some of the vocals sound altered with reverb and echo or are Little Richard style..The songs range from typical 50s rock, some Duane Eddy like sounds, swamp pop, even some Shangri Las feel...

If you are strictly a blues-lover, and want another blues record from him like the last four, you will be disappointed. The two-star review is ridiculous.
Nick is really growing here, trying new stuff (for him), and it is fantastic. The energy is overwhelming - he is teetering between The Sonics and Little Richard rave-ups with the added bonus of butt-kickin instrumental and vocal chops. "Kill My Baby" is such a good single, I emailed Handsome Dick Manitoba from Sirius XM radio and told him about it.
Two things I never do I did here: email deejays, and write online reviews.
I can't wait until Nick and his band show up in Chicago again...

I would have to agree with the Little Richard,Ramones, and Phil Spector references, but I would also sprinkle a little Screamin Jay Hawkins over it.A beautiful mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild and Raw Rock 'n' Roll, March 30, 2010

If you like the wilder side of Little Richard, you'll love this album. SHEENA'S BACK sounds like it could be the sequel to Little Richard's BOO HOO HOO HOO, one of his best, in my opinion. I love this album. It's wild and raw. Crazy and mean. And it rocks like there's no tomorrow. If you love untamed early rock'n'roll, this album is a must-have.

I'm not a huge rockabilly fan but this is different.
The songs are good but what I think makes this album great is the band.
Derek Bossanova's piano is something of a mix between Jerry Lee Lewis and a coked up Thelonius Monk. It's equal parts, eerie, surprising and possibly violent.
I can't help but wonder what else this guy has done and why I haven't heard of him until now.

Curran's vocals were confusing at first but then I figured something out... the record came out exactly like he envisioned it. I don't think most rock n rollers are smart enough to produce themselves, but Curran and Billy Horton make this a classic record and I intend to enjoy it for a long time.

I've just listened to the samples on Amazon and have to say that I am blown away. This is amazing and sounds like it was recorded 50 years ago. I can't believe that someone has been able recreate this kind of ramped-up Rock N Roll. Well Done Mr. Curran. I am buying it right now!

I heard the song "Baby You Crazy" on Little Steven's Underground Garage FM Radio show and LOVED IT!

I honestly was not expecting to hear a song like this on the radio, and even more surprised to find out it is from the 21st century! You'd think it was from the last century.

Love it... For now I just bought the mp3 of "Baby You Crazy", but I definitely plan on buying the album when I get extra cash...

Definitely a gem, and it belongs in everybody's rock collection...especially fans of ORIGINAL rock and roll like Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Beatles, Creedence/CCR, etc....

If you want a good sample track, buy/download "Baby You Crazy"...that should be more than enough to convince you to buy this album and support this group!

4.0 out of 5 stars A rip your skull off rockin' CD!!, March 12, 2010

I read somewhere a description of this album that said something along the lines of it sounds like Little Richard being backed by the Ramones with production by Phil Spector. Sounds about right after you hear it.

I have all of Curran's previous work. Having said that, this is a bit more of a 50's style album than the others. In this day and age people like Nick Curran are very refreshing and rare. This is real music!!! If you have open ears and like the raw stuff, this is for you. His voice and guitar work rule. I look forward to more of his music in the future. I just hope I don't have to wait as long next time.

Great work Nick!

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR BLUES PURISTS... THIS ALBUM ROCKS!, July 15, 2010
This review is from: Reform School Girl (Audio CD)
There aren't many bands out there that understand the connection between Howlin' Wolf and The Stooges or Johnny Winter and The Ramones.

My first album purchase was The Best of Muddy Waters, followed by Here's Little Richard... over a half century later, Reform School Girl is just as exiting!
