This boxed set has two audio CDs, and a live concert DVD. The first disc is primarily live versions from their newer albums, Matter and Form and Judgement. The second disc has a few more live versions and some previously unreleased material.
If you're a fan of VNV Nation, you'll like this set. I enjoy their live versions, and this edition doesn't disappoint. Ronan Harris also provides some liner notes in this inexpensive yet elgantly designed and produced set. If you're new to VNV, I'd strongly suggest Empires or FuturePerfect or Judgement first. Like most live versions, it's best to be a fan and already familiar with the music to appreciate the "theme and variations".

The limited edition of the Reformation 01 box set by VNV Nation is a real bargain. For little more than the price of a regular album CD you get 2 Cd's and a video DVD with 8 tracks recorded at live concerts in Europe (mostly Hamburg, Germany). I also like to remark that the box set includes the first ever LIVE ALBUM by VNV Nation, so fans who prefer VNV Nation live over the studio recordings do not have to fall back on the not 100% legitimate Live album solution by ripping the audio tracks of the previously released Pastperfect Live DVD :). Vnv Nation - Pastperfect Limited Edition CD 2 of the set includes in addition to various remixes of known songs also some new material, which was previously unreleased. Last but not least some comments about the box set itself. It's of high quality, compared to other box sets by other bands that I have seen myself in the past. It also contains a thick booklet that wouldn't fit into a regular CD case. The only bummer here is that the booklet is glued to the box set and thus hard to read in comfort because of the 3 discs next to it (when you unfold the whole set). I almost forgot: You can get a good idea about the quality of the box set by looking at the large version of the product image that was provided by Amazon. Use the zoom feature to get a real close look at the material and the "engraved" VNV Nation logo. That's why is the cover so dark, because it isn't printed color. You can feel it (if you bought it :))

If you love VNV NATION then this boxset will not dissapoint you! This is a really good boxset that is way worth the price! 12 LIVE tracks along with 13 remixes and unreleased material.
Overall I would give this a 4.5 / 5. really worth it. I love live tracks and also the DVD. However im not that really into remixes so i got it for the unreleased tracks "Still waters" "Suffer" and "Precipice" as well as the tracks from Gene Generation. This is a solid boxset while we wait for "Of faith power and glory"

Three Stars at Best,
By

Ronan Harris is an extremely talented composer and lyricist. For those not familiar with VNV Nation, imagine if Bach, Wagner and Elgar had access to electronic music production and teamed up with Plato and Wilfred Owen to do lyrics.
I am a huge fan of VNV Nation and was introduced to them shortly after Futureperfect came out several years ago. Since then, I have followed all of their releases with great anticipation. That being said, this box set is three stars at best, and even then, would only be recommend to huge fans of VNV Nation seeking a complete collection of albums. Both the first disk (the live album) and DVD leave quite a bit to be desired in terms of production quality. These disks sound as though Ronan was recorded doing karoke versions of his songs and the "live" element is not truly captured as well as it was in the Pastperfect DVD. The crowd interaction is lost and Ronan's voice is a bit high in the mix. I would recommend for the next live album VNV Nation take a look at DeVision's "DeVolution Tour- Live 2003" or Depeche Modes "101" to see how these electronic bands managed to bring out a live feel at their concerts. On a more positive note, disk two had some incredibly well done tracks that will validate this purchase for VNV Nation completists. Of special note, I found Apoptygma Berzerk's Chrome Remix, Frozen Plasma's Carry You Remix and Suffer were particularly well done. Overall, this album should be purchased by someone already familiar with VNV Nation and seeking to complete their album collection. For those new to VNV Nation, I would recommend purchasing any of their prior albums for a starting point and then go from there.

Exceptional box set,

I have been anticipating the release of this box set ever since the day that it was announced. When I finally received it, I was blown away. If you are a fan of VNV Nation, or any other "Futurepop" electronic music, BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY. It is in short supply, and copies are selling fast. Here's why:
1 It's a Limited Release, with only 9000 copies distributed to the U.S. 2 There are unreleased tracks and rare remixes never heard before 3 It's VNV Nation 4 The quality of the case itself is superb 5 Two cd's, and a live dvd for 20 dollars 6 It's VNV Nation I have heard almost everything that VNV Nation has released, and the unreleased/rare/remix cd that came with this box set blew me away, proving that VNV Nation only gets better and better. In particular, the remix of "Carry You" from the album Judgement, "Suffer", and "Still Waters" were some of the noteworthy tracks that caught my ear. The live song "Honour 2003" BLEW MY MIND. In short, for the price it is unbeatable. There are some extensive musings of the band's front man Ronan Harris in the booklet which shed new light on the purpose and meanings behind some of the songs, as well as some insight on his reasoning behind particular albums such as Praise The Fallen and Judgement. A must have for all fans of EBM, Futurepop, and electronica. Great music, a high quality live dvd, and an insignificant price make this a supreme addition to any music collection.

Here we have a live set for people who don't get to see VNV that often. Being in the US puts me in that group, and that kind of makes me sad. I did get to see them one time, however, and that one time triggered a compulsive need to own this CD. Luckily the compulsion was right about one thing - there was a need for this boxed set because it really is worth the money. It has so much to listen to that it is hard to fault it in any way.
and then you get to the second disc. Precipice, still waters, and suffer are three of the selling points for me. Each of them are nice additions to the second disc and each of them issomething new that was loveingly brought to the VNV playground. Aside from that are also all the other mizes and montages that appear on this second disc as well, making it a great purchase. Personally, I found it something to keep away the boredom and I normally don't go from things like this.

This set is worth it for the remixes alone! The live content is like an update to the Pastperfect DVD. If you are a fan this is a must have!

Live techno albums keep getting better, as this box set shows,
By
This review is from: Reformation 01 (Audio CD)
The likes of Justice, VNV Nation, Depeche Mode, and other significant electronic acts have major thanks owed to Daft Punk, whose "Alive 2007" album made the live techno album marketable and spectacular. VNV Nation follows in those footsteps formidably with Reformation 01, a simply awesome box set from the masters of lyrical electronica.
The first disc, a collection of live songs from various shows, really shines here. Ronan Harris' creativity blows the walls of off these very familiar songs to VNV fans. VNV reinvents many of the songs with incredible results, such as the much more listenable rendition of "Joy" found here, or the addition of new lyrics to "Arena". It cements the fact that VNV is a great live act and can showcase more energy than a number of bands more successful than they are. The second disc is a compilation of remixes and unreleased tracks. While the remixes are all a little stale (save for Apoptygma Berzerk's remix of "Chrome"), the three unreleased tracks are all great glimpses into the basement of VNV. "Still Waters" epically builds all the way to the bodyrocking climax, "Suffer", while slow, also builds into a great climax, and "Precipice" draws memories of "Rubicon" (from VNV's "Empires" album) and stands out as the most recognizably VNV-style track of the three. All in all a good follow-up disk. The DVD is really nothing more than a visual component to accompany the live album, with a few different tracks thrown in for good measure. That being said, it's worth a watch to see just how energetic Ronan is on stage. Reformation 01 is an essential addition to any VNV fan's collection. However, anyone just getting into VNV would be better suited starting elsewhere - this album is purely for longtime fans, and a must-buy at that.

The whole Reformation package is fantastic. VNV Nation really did something great for the fans. So great to hear live versions, as well as some of the most beautiful melodic music today. Once again as always VNV Nation is by far the best band. If only the whole world could hear these guys!!!

A must have for die hard VNV fans,
This review is from: Reformation 1 (Audio CD)
VNV Nation can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. VNV is easily my favorite band I can count on for putting out consistently good music as well as putting on a good show. Their latest release REFORMATION 01 is a testament to my statement. The version I bought is the three disc box set with one live disc, one disc of remixes and rare tracks, and a dvd of live concert footage. The box set is in a fold out cardboard container. The booklet is glued to the fold out so don't try to remove it. The songs on disc one is a conglomeration of the band's previous album mostly from PRAISE THE FALLEN, MATTER + FORM, and JUDGEMENT. My favorite of the three discs is the second disc which consists of remixes and rare, unreleased tracks from GENE GENERATION. I really dug the songs "Still Waters","Suffer" and "Precipice". For the price I paid for the box set, I think I got my money's worth. It is a great way to keep me busy while waiting for their next studio album of new music sometime this summer. I definitely would recommend this 3 disc set for diehard fans of VNV Nation.
