In researching for a book on women soul care-giving, it is often difficult, unfortunately, to find examples of Protestant women in the early years of the Reformation, who left writings to examine. Bainton's three book series on women of the reformation has been a gold mind of primary source and historical background. Well worth the purchase price for the serious student of Reformation history from a feminine perspective.

Reviewer: Bob Kellemen, Ph.D., is the author of Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction , Soul Physicians, Spiritual Friends, "Martin Luther's Pastoral Counseling," and the forthcoming "Sacred Friendships: Listening to the Voices of Feminine Soul Care and Spiritual Direction."
