One of the last true rock n' roll bands,
By A Customer
This review is from: Refried Dreams (Audio CD)
For any one who pays attention to such things, the Cheater Slicks have been making some of the best (though widely ignored) rock n' roll records in the world. If you're going to try just one then this is it. Trading in the lo-fi noise attack of their Jon Spencer produced "Don't Like You" for a bigger more produced sound has given this band a power that's overwhelming. Far from being slick, however, this is still a loose affair. The songwriting is remarkable - better than they've ever been. A brilliant combination of the Velvets, the Stooges and 60's garage infused with a layer of Lee Hazelwood melancholy. A masterpiece!
