I purchased this one and the much less expensive Cooper-Atkins 330 thermometers for the new fridge and freezers. The spring/dial Rubbermaid indicated temp 2-3 degrees higher than the Cooper-Atkins. The refrigeration tech came out to service the new units and measured temperature inside in several spots with a finely calibrated device of his own, it was showing the same temperature as the simple Cooper-Atkins thermometer. He said that the dial ones are never exact because the metal spring inside reacts differently to the cold, hence the variation. I will be returning this Rubbermaid one. It might not be as crucial of a variation in other situations, but with food storage, three degrees higher means food spoiled.

I compared the face of this thermometer to that of others, such as the Taylor model, and found the cleaner and uncluttered face of this one to work better for a quick visual confirmation of proper temperature.

I bought two, and placed them both in the freezer for a few days. Both display the same temperature, and both match the temperature reading from a digital thermometer I have, so they seem to be accurate.

Would have preferred them to be US made, but evidently that's asking for a lot in certain products now.

Will update this if there is any new info. So far, however, they seem like a good buy.

Purchased two and after twenty-four hours next to a digital thermometer in the refrigerator and then the freezer section all three thermometers displayed the same temperature. Additionally the face of the Rubbermaid is easy to read and the “safe” zone indicators make for a quick confirmation that the fridge and freezer temp settings are set correctly. Very satisfied with the purchase.

OK. Like some others, I could not decide between this one and the DayMark IT115410 Stainless Steel Dishwasher-Safe Refrigerator/Freezer Classic Thermometer, 2.4" Dial Size. So I bought both.
The Rubbermaid one wins hands down bec of the unusual and crummy hook and stand on the Daymark. The Daymark hook is designed to only hang on bars running in one direction, but it is too narrow to hang on mine running in that direction. The Rubbermaid easily hangs on the bars running in both directions. Likewise the Daymark stand is so narrow it falls through the bars, so it won't stand. Again, no such problem w/ the Rubbermaid.
Both show identical temperatures in the freezer. Save you money and just get the Rubbermaid.

There are two variables to look for when purchasing a frig/freezer thermometer: temperature accuracy (performance) and design (engineering).
My unit provided acceptable overall performance as measured by accuracy to within 2 degrees F but has some design limitations which make the unit inconvenient to mount or position prominently in many refrigerators or freezers not having wire shelf racks.

All refrigerators should ideally be engineered with integral and accurate thermometers-one for the freezer and one for the frig. Unfortunately, unless you spend considerable $, you often have to "pimp" your appliance out by purchasing thermometers to insure your unit is maintaining safe freezing/refrigeration. I purchased this Rubbermaid "Commercial" FGR80DC thermometer along with a DayMark, IT115410 thermometer each with similar $5 price points, and then compared temperature readings of both units to one of the benchmark standard liquid scientific thermometers (The H-B instruments 5/2210 Durac organic liquid-in-glass total immersion thermometer) recommended by another reviewer colleague (Gene P. Louie) to provide a standard for comparing the performance of each.

My findings revealed a 2 degree F variation (on the higher end) compared to the H-B standard for this Rubbermaid FGR80DC and a 1.5 degree F variation on the high end compared to the H-B standard for the Day Mark IT115410 Thermometer.

PROS:

1. Extremely well-manufactured for a $5 thermometer. Heavy-duty stainless steel case and bezel.
2. Large, easy to read 2.25" tempered, shatter-resistant glass dial resists condensation.
3. Clear, unobstructed metrics and dial calibrations with red HACCP "safe" range.
4. NSF-rated
5.

If you need an immediate reading this might not be the thermometer you're looking for, but for what it is, it works great. Just leave it in the fridge or room where you need to know the temperature and in a few minutes it'll get there. It seems to be precise, too.

This product is on the mark. I bought one for the freezer, and the other for the refrigerator. It works very well. Before I bought this , did not realize the temps were too high . I was wasting electric. Glad to know I have the right setting for both.

I purchased a couple of these for inside fridge and RV fridge, and compared them with a digital version I have and they were right on the money.
