Book Description

October 7, 2003
Many Americans today feel stressed-out, over-extended, and disconnected...but they're not sure why, or what they can do about it. Therapist and ordained minister Dr. Will Miller has the answer. He advocates changing our hectic lifestyles to embrace the idea of "Refrigerator Rights"-establishing close connections with friends and family who are trusted enough to enter our homes and help themselves to whatever is in the refrigerator. Dr. Miller offers suggestions on how to accomplish this through:

€ Reaching out to those beyond our immediate family
€ Balancing self-care and care for others
€ Creating a sense of true community
€ Re-establishing vital social networks
€ Getting comfortable with not being constantly "productive"
€ Learning to go with the flow, take a detour, lose track of time in the company of friends...and rediscover the nourishment of relaxed, mutually satisfying relationships

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!, March 8, 2004
This review is from: Refrigerator Rights: Why we need to let people in our lives, our homes (and our refrigerators)... and (Paperback)
This book makes so much sense and offers such a great take on modern life that I can't believe the media haven't discovered it yet and put it on their "must-read" lists. Miller is a great communicator who weaves his own story into a compelling analysis of modern culture. After you read this book, you will be less inclined to watch a TV show and more inclined to do something with a friend. A quick-read...but one that packs a punch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Provocative and Important, March 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Refrigerator Rights: Why we need to let people in our lives, our homes (and our refrigerators)... and (Paperback)
Every family needs to have a copy of this book and needs to read it and discuss it together. Miller & Sparks have put their finger on a profound problem that our society simply doesn't recognize very well. This book will read fast but will stay with you for a long time. The message is very simple: we need to stay connected with each other. The litmus test of "refrigerator rights" is SO perfect. Buy it and read it. You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insight, April 20, 2006
This review is from: Refrigerator Rights: Why we need to let people in our lives, our homes (and our refrigerators)... and (Paperback)
This book is on to something big. It explains what makes so many of us depressed and anxious "for no real reason." Dr MIller not only illustrates how isolation whether self-imposed or forced affects every aspect of our lives but gives real insight into how to find "family."
